Halfling, Ancient Language

Ancient Halflings speak Frisi, it is a very unique language that is unlike any other language that other races speak that live near them.

Writing System

Before they met other societies, halflings only had a pictographic language similar to Native Americans. After they met the Atlanteans they started using it first as part of their writing system but mixed it with their pictographs.

Phonology

This language is very lyrical and singsong-like. Many sounds from nature, such as wind, swishing grass, and animal sounds are included, as well as body language like postures, fascial movements, etc. It is hard for other races to copy because of the additions that they have added to it.

Morphology

They use many soft vowels and few hard consonants. They prefer short words over long ones.

Vocabulary

Many of their ideas use the same base word but differentiate it by a descriptor either as a prefix or suffix. Such as for a raspberry, would be red stacked globe fruit [ruber, ru-ber (red globe), rubaga, rubaya (red berry), or rubaska (red many berry)]

Tenses

The tenses they use are past, present, future, and possible future.

Sentence Structure

A Frisi sentence structure uses the subject, verb, and object word order. Some outsiders find it hard to understand them, because of their odd way of speaking.

Adjective Order

The adjective can come before or after the object, usually, in the past tense it is after, but in the future or present tense is placed before.

Structural Markers

Frisi doesn't usually use structure markers in a sentence. They prefer to use absolutes.
