Fox Squirrel

A fox squirrel was another creature caused by a mixup during a wild magic storm.

Basic Information

Anatomy

It is a combination of a squirrel, fox, and cat. It has long cat-like legs and body, a fox-like head and a squirrel-like tail. They are arboreal creatures that live in any forest, jungle, or mountainous area. Some of those living in jungles have monkey-like tails instead of Squirrel-like ones.

Genetics and Reproduction

They are most closely related to a fox, but can rarely breed with one, so they usually stick to another fox squirrel. The average litter size is 4-5 kits, but in times of plenty this can increase to 12. They have a gestation period of 45 days. The kits are commonly born in the spring.

Growth Rate & Stages

Squirrel foxes mature at 4 months for males and 6 months for females. In the wild the typical lifespan is 1-3 years, but in captivity they can live up to 10 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Any, but prefer forest, jungle, and mountainous areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Fox squirrels are omnivorous, but prefer to eat meat. When meat is scarce, they will eat fruits and nuts, especially when fattening up for the winter.

Biological Cycle

In some areas, where it gets cold in the winter, these creatures are known to hibernate.

Fox squirrels are often found in large family groups, packs, pairs, or solitary. This often depends on location and time of the year.

Domestication

They are commonly domesticated for pets. Some be hard to train, but others love to be around others, adopting them to be their family.

This creature is commonly kept as a pet in the Treelands, Animus, Sylvania, and many other continents. Oddly, they can’t be found on any of the Dwarven or Draconic continents, Teranik, Nagpur or Atlantia. It can’t be found on these lands because they ate it to extinction.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Often raised and used as alarm animals, they can be very vocal to those crossing into their territory.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Depending on where they live, a fox squirrels fur color can vary from yellow, brown, red and black. Those living around the fae can be have any color of the rainbow. They usually have a lighter shade of the same color on their underside. Some even come in patches, stripes or spots.
