Chakram

Written by Pookas Kreations

A Chakram is a ring-like disc weapon. The Chakram comes in various forms and sizes. The most common is one the size of a dinner plate that is sharpened on the outer edges; the next is one made to be worn on the wrist or arm 6-8 inches in diameter. The less well-known ones are one mounted on the end of a staff, another with 4 or more barbs evenly spaced around the circumference and a serrated one.

Significance

Cultural. The favored weapon of the god Vishnu/Krishna.

It is commonly used by a tribe of Centaur Nomads call the Akali, and a group of Wild Halflings called the Akladi. They both worship the same god but goes by a different name to each of them.

A seasoned warrior can carry 6-8 medium size rings on their arm. They spin them with the opposite hand by the finger many times and hurl it at their enemies. If it hits an unarmored leg or arm, it is severed. Larger chakram are often worn around their necks or on a hat/turban.

This exotic and deadly weapon becomes even more imposing in the hands of one who has trained in these unique techniques with it. Chakram dervishes are said to be combat dervishes, whirling about and sending flying death soaring towards their foes.

This weapon is most often used as a ranged weapon but can be used in melee as well. It is used to best effect at long distances. 6-inch chakrams have up to 200 ft range, if made of brass this increases to 330 ft. It was usually thrown vertically so as to avoid accidentally hitting an ally.
They can be quickly thrown one at a time like a shuriken. Trained users can easily use them while mounted. Adept users can throw them while using a melee weapon in their other hand. They were even worn as the rim of a hat and used for head-butting.
