Battle of the Underlings

This was a skirmish between The Tunnel Watch and the Underlings. After the first infected died and the spores started spreading they discovered the danger. They started searching for more and became worried about how many they found. When they stopped the epidemic, a new assault began down the main tunnels. The Brain Fungus was tired of the newcomer's incursions into their territory.

The Conflict

Prelude

A group of Underlings decided to begin exploring in the lower caves searching for new food sources, ores, and other treasures. Some refuse to follow the rules and strike out on their own to explore the deep tunnels. They traveled too deep and went mad from the tainted food they gathered in the Deep.  It is believed that they stumbled onto a Myconid colony and were infected by the The Brain Fungus. They were sent back to the habitation tunnels with infected mushrooms and spawn to infect more people, and to spread the spores before they died. They share the food with their friends and put some in the storerooms, as well as some out-of-the-way tunnels, So some of them have a chance to spore before they are found.

Deployment

The Tunnel Watch is set to guard all the deep tunnels.

Conditions

The tunnels are very dark, with difficult terrain in the less traveled areas.

The Engagement

So he began sending waves and waves of infected gnomes, other races, and animals sent by the colony.

Outcome

Many were infected with the first incursions, and hundreds of people were infected, but the healers did a great job and were able to save most of them.

Aftermath

Some of them did go mad from the spores and escaped back into the Deep.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Randomly some of the spores that weren't found in the first breakout, grew into a new colony and would need to be delt with anew.
