The Goblin War {1370 DR}

The goblin war is Cormyr's bloodiest conflict in history and accounts for a new era in leadership following it. Not only a year after the Abraxus affair, and mainly due to the actions taken by the Purple Throne, interesting threats began to arise in the kingdom known as the Seven Scourges. The Seven Scourges were Ghazneths, demonic humanoids warped by the abyss after death who gained several abilities including flight, and complete immunity to magic, actually feeding off of magic, and the ability to cause emotions in people around them. All of the Ghazneths were traitors from within Cormyr's past including:
  1. Boldovar Obarskyr , who was a corrupted king near the start of Cormyr during the time of Bearauble Etharr. Had the power to induce madness, who was a corrupted king near the start of Cormyr during the time of Bearauble Etharr. Had the power to induce madness
  2. Suzara Obarskyr, known as the first traitor of Cormyr, who Suzail is named after and wife to the founder of Cormyr. Had the power to manipulate and control fire
  3. Ryndala Merendil, tried to organize an assassination on King Azoun I with the help of Amedahast, Mage Royal. Had the power of disease.
  4. Luthax, a powerful War Wizard who tried to overthrow the crown. Had the power to induce fury.
  5. Melineth Turcassan, who sold Suzail to pirates. Had the power of decay.
  6. Xanthon Cormaeril, who participated in The Abraxus Affair {1369 DR} . Had the power to control swarms of bugs.
  7. Rowen Cormaeril, fell in love with Princess Tanalasta of Cormyr but disobeyed orders making him a traitor and the other Ghazneths turned him into one. Had the power to create storms.
    The Ghazneths were discovered when Princess Tanalasta and Mage Royal Vangerdahast were travelling around the country and found blighted fields and reports of a strange man bringing swarms of horrible bugs to crops, and who was headed into the Stonelands. Vangerdahast organized parties to search the stonelands and find whoever was destroying fields across Cormyr. Princess Tanalasta accompanied Vangerdahast into the Stonelands to also meet up with Princess Alusair who was already patrolling the stonelands.   On the way there they met up with a ranger from Alusair's patrol named Rowen Cormaeril who was a good man just wanting to prove his family weren't traitors to the crown. Tanalasta, now 37 and still without love or an heir, fell for the handsome man and he fell for her. They were both followers of Chauntea and when threatened to be separated by Vangerdahast because marrying a man from a traitor house is a horrible idea, especially after she fell for Aunadar Bleth who ended up stabbing Cormyr in the back. The group of Rowen, Tanalasta, and Vangerdahast found many Ghazneths on their travels and were constantly evading them. Tanalasta also discovered that the Ghazneths were traitors to Cormyr by searching weird elven tombs that had odd diseased and twisted trees coming forth through them.   With the other Ghazneths being discovered Rowen was instructed to find the tomb of protectors, a Cormyrean tomb which housed ancient soldiers with special abilities against undead, and fiends. Before departing Rowen and Tanalasta had their fun and prayed to Chauntea for an especially fertile experience and Tanalasta became pregnant and they married there. . King Azoun IV went to the Stonelands with a brigade of War Wizards and an entire company of Purple Dragons to capture and experiment on a Ghazneth for their weakness and how to kill them. He succeeded but not fast enough as Ghazneths attacked Arabel and captured Queen Filfaeril was captured by Boldovar the mad who thought he was still the rightful King of Cormyr who needed a Queen. King Azoun IV went back to Arabel and found that Boldovar had been hiding in the War Wizard base in Arabel, consuming all of their magic items and trying to entice Filfaeril to become his queen. King Azoun IV successfully saved Queen Filfaeril and kept in Arabel waiting for his daughters to return.   Vangerdahast was told by the King to bring both daughters back after meeting up with Alusair's brigade. When they arrived at the meeting place they found Alusair's company mostly dead, but Alusair alive in the Abandoned Keep. Following this Vangerdahast attempted to teleport the princesses home but a Ghazneth pushed Vangerdahast out of the way of the Princesses and Vangerdahast was back in Arabel. Alusair and Tanalasta began to make their way home while Vangerdahast led a company of purple dragons and war wizards to save them. Vangerdahast's company was held up by finding a Ghazneth base which they attempted to siege and was eventually successful. During this Xanthon Cormaeril fled into a cavern where Vangerdahast followed, getting trapped with Xanthon in a demiplane.   On the way to the Tomb of Protectors Rowen Cormaeril heard Princess Tanalasta, his pregnant wife, getting hurt and raped and disobeyed his order to travel straight to the Tomb, but it was all a trick by Boldovar the Mad to commit treason by disobeying orders. Rowen ran and hide in a small elven forest in the stonelands where the ghost of Illiphar Nelnueve gifted him his Magical Stave and told him to give it to King Azoun IV. Following this Rowen was turned into a Ghazneth but kept the Stave safe. . Vangerdahast, while trapped in this demi-plane realizes he can't escape through magical means and every spell he casts weakens the prison of an evil red greatwyrm, Nalavarauthatoryl, a once elven woman who disregarded Illiphar's words and tried to destroy Cormyr, ordering the burning of the Bleth household and other things (see #deleted-channel for some further information). Illiphar cursed her to become a dragon and trap her in a near inescapable demiplane. An army of Grodd Goblins who saw Nalavara as their leader were trapped here. Rowen was thankfully also in this demiplane and was where the ghazneth's were created. The now Ghazneth Rowen gave the magical stave to Vangerdahast who was immediately chased by Nalavara to try and destroy the stave and Rowen sacrificed his life to protect Vangerdahast who used his ring of wishes to "Wish the inhabitants of this demiplane out of existence". It removed them from that existence and into the ghazneth infested Cormyr, freeing Nalavara who began to rampage Cormyr.   Alusair and Tanalasta make it to Scatterrock Garrison where a War Wizard teleports them to Suzail. Tanalasta fills in for her Father King Azoun IV while he is fighting the war. Alusair and some purple dragon officials lay siege on a massive orc camp which the Ghazneths were setting up.   Nalavara laid siege to Tyrluk leaving only two buildings standing, burned most of Eveningstar down, laid siege to Arabel which hung on due to Olaf Vaylan who killed two Ghazneths and left Nalavara with great wounds before getting killed by Nalavara, and went forth to attempt to take Suzail after a short rest. . Tanalasta gave birth to King Azoun V before Nalavara begun her siege on Suzail. Vangerdahast gave Azoun IV Illiphar's Stave and Tanalasta prepped for battle. In this final battle Tanalasta killed Xanthon after he poisoned her, killing Tanalasta, and Azoun IV killed the rest of the Ghazneths along with Nalavara who killed Azoun IV as he killed her. The Grodd Goblins assisted in the siege of Suzail and killed many inhabitants, getting the war named The Goblin War. The threats were eventually destroyed and Cormyr reigned victorious but suffered great loss. Alusair Obarskyr was forced to take the throne but refused the title of Queen and became the-steel-regent until King Azoun V (Raedra's grandfather) was old enough to lead.
