Gith
The Gith are a species of mortal, native to the Astral Plane. They were notably the slaves of Mind Flayers, before they broke free of their bonds and launched an endless war against them. Due to the living realities unique connection to alternate planes of existence, extra-dimensional visitors to Apa Axas are somewhat commonplace, and the timeless dream-like Astral Plane is no exception. This fact, combined with the increased presence of their most hated enemies and former slavers, the Illithid, makes Apa Axas an outpost for the Astral Sea’s most feared warrior race, the Gith. These highly disciplined and well-trained species of psionically empowered knights usually have a singular purpose when they arrive on Apa Axas: eliminate the threat of their Mind Flayer nemeses and that of their strange cult of patrons that seems to originate from this roving reality.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
Despite their cultural impact, the Gith are very rare on Apa Axas, with many kingdoms going centuries without a single Gith passing through. In fact, their rarity had been deemed as monsters in their early appearances on Apa Axas and some were confined to zoos. However, they have started to become more common in recent years, due to one distinct reason: the Illithid. Otherwise known as the Mind Flayers, these alien nightmares have started to take root into the lands of Apa Axas, although weakened from sheer effort of landing on the Roving Reality, which has led to the creation of Mind Flayer Warlocks as the Mind Flayers are forced to rely on lesser species to survive. Gith, honour-bound to exterminate each and every one of these betentacled horrors, have attempted to follow the Illithid onto Apa Axas, a feat with a low success rate, but an increasing one. Before this technique was developed, the Gith only arrived on Apa Axas by accident, usually due to faulty portals or random tears in the Astral Plane or Limbo. These individuals, usually Githyanki, often became thieves and mercenaries, using their Psionic capabilities to achieve their goals stealthily. These criminals are seen as traitors to their race and are usually executed on site if found by a Githyanki platoon.
The Githzerai are even rarer, but individuals have been seen in places of great far realm interference such as Lucidity. Why they congregate there is unknown, but many explanations, from the absorption of latent energy, to a way to perfect astral projection to simple curiosity, have been forwarded.
Civilization and Culture
History
The twin races of Githyanki and Githzerai were once known by the combined name of the Gith, and were designed and engineered by the deadly and mysterious Mind Flayers for use as a slave army, embedding innate Psionic abilities into their Gith subjects. However, they did not anticipate the destiny that awaits all slavers and their slaves; eventually the shackles must break, and the Gith soon turned against their masters, and eliminated them completely from the multiverse. They are noted warriors, inventing the infamous Psi-Warrior Fighter style, as well as the Soul Knife Rogue technique and they are the originators of the Circle of the Stars, and are met with extreme caution and hostile by most races, due to their harsh and warlike nature.
