The Thassalar Family (THASS-al-ar)

The Thassalar family have served as rulers of the Oristhanian free city of Khara for nearly four hundred years, passing down the hereditary title of Duke or Duchess of Khara. That title is currently held by Her Grace The Lady Lira Vayath Thassalar.
The Thassalar family's arms, as shown at right, feature a shield, its first quarter red and gold striped, its second and third quarters black with a golden ducal crown, and its fourth quarter gold. Individual members of the family typically difference their arms with additional details in the gold quarter. The shield is encircled with a blue ribbon, representing Lake Khara encircling Hawkshead Island, and topped with a cormorant as a crest.
