Swarm

The Swarm is a geographic location in the upper 200 m of the ocean in which food is plenty or in which certain fish like to gather for procreation. Usually they can't be seen by Syreni because of how close they are to the surface but if they are big enough or if you are close to the upper 200 m and inn the twilight zone in which sunrays still reach, you can see them swimming around like a dark and chaotic cloud.

There are of course many of these locations and they are helpful in the economy of the City of Aogua and Blacksite. Because pieces of food or dead animals sink to the bottom where the Syreni can then make use of them. This can be a major food ressource. Especially on a Blacksite where other fish are too big to kill and eat.
These locations also change over and during years. Either because of currents or special occasions like ships who leave food rests behind or dead birds etc.
Some of the game that this swarm produces is also too big for Syreni to transport which means that under prominent swarms, graveyards start forming. One of these graveyards is on Blacksite ⧣2369

History

They used to be the only and biggest food source in the beginnings of Aogua which resulted in many religious traditions springing forth, celebrating the Swarms or making offerings to the gods supposedly controlling them. Every religious group has at least one and these traditions are the most likely to survive in the current climate in Aogua which veers more towards Atheism. Some of these traditions got translated into holidays which are celebrated in every district.

Tourism

None of the Syreni can reach one of those swarms because they are in the upper 200m in which no Syreni can survive.
