DM's Report: Arrival at the Black Tower

General Summary

Our heroes started their morning slowly following their fight with the bullywogs on the marsh. Throughout the day the tower loomed in the distance, squat and crooked. Arriving before it they encountered Kepisk and Vyth, a lizardman shaman and lizarwoman paladin respectively, along with two lizardfolk elders. Kepisk and Vyth joined the heroes to venture into the tower. Sethek wished them good luck and departed with the elders.   Noticing the tower had no doors, Kepisk sent his spirit animal on aerial reconnaissance and located a trap door in the roof of the tower. Pijar was easily able to scale the outer walls with his cat claws and lower a rope to the others. Jumping down through the trap door they entered a guard room with mostly broken furniture and equipment and, to their surprise, a gray ooze over a kicked over chair. Fortunately they were able to dispatch the gray ooze without great difficulty and locate another trapdoor down to the next level.   Before proceeding the group detected movement below. Kepisk cast light on a broken chair leg and dropped it down. Quickly a pair of zombies came to investigate. A plan to attack from above went slightly awry when Bimpnottin jumped down into melee, finding there were two more in the room. The battle was quickly met by all.   The zombies were eventually dispatched and a search of the room began, turning up some scrawled writing ("Say the Dark Lord's Name"), a wizard's scroll, a couple priest scrolls (chain lightening, bane), a bird statue, and a small amount of coins. George also setoff a poison trap after finding a secret alcove in a bookshelf.   On trying to enter the next room they found their way blocked by a fallen bookshelf. Vyth lifted the bookshelf with ease and moved it aside. The entered into a landing, before long locating a stairway hidden under another fallen bookshelf. Kepisk also located a book of folktales about Mekeiel in surprisingly good condition.   Vyth started to proceed down the stairs but upon seeing a group of skeletons in wait, she retreated to plan with the group.
