Glimburk

The island of Glimburk is rocky island Hansola and Pirate Switzerland. For most of its existence its been largely unnoticed. Two large mountains dominate the landcape with a small valley between them. Most of the coastline is cliff face with only a few beaches. The Island is home to a group of rock gnomes who mostly live in simple peace but the Summarians have been eying the island. It would make the perfect staging ground for an attack on Hansola and an excellent waystation between the two nations. Those in Hansola are of course trying to prevent this in such a way that doesn't cause a war with The Summarian Empire.
Recently Glimburk has rose to greater prominence as a creator of plasm products. Some of the gnomes have been lured off the island with gold to work for The Bluebill refining company or other parties in Solan, but many stay behind bound to their home. There are a few on the island that order shipments of plasm but rumor has it that one gnome is ordering gallons of the stuff. To the outside he is known only as the mechanist.
While most don't know this the island does hold another secret. Long ago when the deliverer conquered the known world and for a short time united it under one banner, a dwarf clan settled on the island. When the dragons were slain and the deliverer left this world many similar dwarf clans were slaughtered by humans or elves wishing to reclaim their land or retreated back to ancestral homes in Berginsel. Not the Bronzebart clan though, they had formed bonds with the rock gnomes who called the island home and simply retreated into the mountain. For thousands of years they remained. Cut off from the rest of dwarf culture they are somewhat different from the clans of the VCG. Though they did nothing to hide thier existence the anonymity of their island kept them out of the puplic eye and once the VCG conquered Alberon they decided to remain detached from most of the world. They do most of their business with the outside world through the gnomes of the island.

Geography

The two mountains that dominate the landscape of Glimburk are known as Northpeak on the northern half of the island, and Sudberg on the southern half. They both turn the coastlines into rocky cliffs but between them is a valley where greenery can prosper. During hurricane season the hilly valley becomes a maze of small islands that during the dry season are just hills. For this reason most of the permanent structures are built on or within the mountains.

Ecosystem

Every year the flooding of the center valley splits the island in two, as such most of the animals are migratory going into the lush valley during the dry season and up on the mountains during storm season. Northpeak is more rounded with dirt covering most of the stone. Forests cling to the northern tip of the island sheltered but the mountain. Sudberg is more rocky. The northern side of the mountain facing the valley has some greenery but the south side is left mostly barren by the storms.

Fauna & Flora

Along the center valley there is a type of palm tree that is native to many of the storm prone islands. It is a flexible wood and the trees are known for bending in the wind but never breaking.

Natural Resources

Both mountains have concentrations of copper, tin, iron, and gold that are mined by the locals and sold abroad.

History

The gnomes of the island tell of their ancestors coming to the island after being washed up by a hurricane. When the dwarves came they reportedly offered them assistance in killing the local dragon population in exchange for cooperation, but that was over 3000 years ago and the records are fuzzy. After the deliverer disappeared there was brief upheaval but the gnomes never cared much for religion anyways. Peace was reached by ceding the southern mountain to the dwarf clan and the gnomes moved their villages to the northern half of the island. Then came the pirates. After years of the established border pirate invaders seeking to enslave the gnomish population as goldminers came to the island. They were wholly unprepared for a dwarven military company to smash into them like the fist of Gott. Since then the tensions have eased, the two groups peacefully coexist in friendship.
