Phaedra Seri

Seeker Phaedra Seri (a.k.a. The Dust Walker)

Phaedra Seri was born in Arqadin to a family of merchants who practiced the Path of the Stars. She found herself drawn at an early age to the tenets of her faith, and soon decided that she would dedicate herself to following her path as a cleric. To this end, she wrote to the Bishop of the Star Cathedral in Lokar, and was overjoyed when she received a response indicating that a place was waiting for her in the Cathedral's priory. At the age of 18, she left her family to make the voyage from Arqadin to Lokar.   While enrolled in the priory, Phaedra quickly stood out for her passionate dedication to her faith, though some of her peers referred to her as a zealot. She made it her personal mission to spread the light of the Stars to those around her through preaching. Thus it was in her twenty-fifth year she found herself in Lokar's notorious Dust Market, looking to preach to those she felt were in need of the Stars' message. But when a fight broke out at the Dust Market and the city guard were called, Phaedra found herself among a group being pursued. The group included Dorzha the Hurda barbarian, Sloanan, a half-orc from the Gutters, Aaron, a blacksmith's son, and Peterolunium (or Pete), an elven ranger. Together they were able to escape through the sewers to the city's docks, but found they had bonded over the experience, their fates afterward forever intertwined. Later, relaying the tale of her escape from the Dust Market to her peers at the Cathedral, Phaedra earned the nickname "the Dust Walker." Not long after the events in the Dust Market, Phaedra sought out Aaron at his father's blacksmith shop when she discovered that her clasp, a family heirloom, had been damaged in the pursuit. Aaron was able to repair it, and Phaedra felt a deep sense of debt to the young blacksmith and aspiring paladin that would lead her into trouble later. It was while showing the repaired clasp to her new friend Dorzha that Phaedra began to learn of the complicated relationship the Hurda woman had with Pete the elf. When Aaron learned of the conspiracy on the part of the Scions of Anubhak to overthrow the Church in Lokar, Phaedra was the first person he came to. She in turn called on Dorzha and Pete, and all four of them attempted to put a stop to the Insurrection before it could begin. Phaedra assisted in a mission to retrieve the secret codes the Scions were using to communicate. When it became apparent that fighting was breaking out all over the city, she also went with Aaron to the Gutters to recruit Sloanan to their cause. It was because of her valor in fighting the Scions during the Insurrection that when Sloanan was recruited to the Seekers, he recommended Phaedra for membership as well. Though the Seekers were not an official police force, in fact traditionally had been better known as treasure hunters, their actions during the Insurrection had given them a newfound authority among the people of Lokar, and Phaedra was overjoyed at this new opportunity to spread the light of the Stars. However, the experience soon soured for her when she was duped into a plot by Sloanan and Pete to discredit their lieutenant, Maner Knott, because Sloanan was jealous of Knott's relationship with Emilia Varis, the daughter of the Seekers' High Captain whom Sloanan had fallen in love with. Phaedra was humiliated to discover that she had been used to spread false rumors about the lieutenant, and still felt strong feelings of discomfort towards her fellow Seekers when they were called upon to investigate the Rose Street Killer. The Rose Street Killer was an unknown assailant who was believed to be responsible for the deaths or disappearances of a handful of freed serfs, as well as that of Wendel Arden, the cleric of the Green who had fought for the serf's freedom. The investigation brought Phaedra's team of Seekers into a confrontation with the gang known as the Smiling Cut, and then down below the streets of Lokar to assist the Sewer Dragon kobolds in ousting their rival gang, the Mud Sharks. In the Gutters, the team investigated the rundown home of another of Wendel's serf proteges, who had disappeared more recently. Putting the clues together, Phaedra and the other Seekers realized that the answer would be found in the abandoned neighborhood known as "the Drop," that hovered above the sea on a precipice that seemed moments from crumbling. At the ruins of the Sacred Rose, the party was horrified to discover that the Rose Street Killer was the risen corpse of Wendel Arden himself, turned into a horrifying vine-wight by some dark power. In the ensuing battle with Arden and his undead minions, Phaedra was slain, transformed into a vine-wight herself, along with her friend Aaron. Though the other Seekers were able to destroy Wendel Arden himself, they were forced to flee in the face of having to fight their own risen companions. When the Seekers returned in force to the site of the Sacred Rose, Phaedra and Aaron were gone. In fact, they had been called to the master of the evil vine magic, an ancient mummy named Master Sin, who was an agent of the Deep Dominion and high priest of their cult, the Harbingers. It was Master Sin who had turned Wendel Arden into a vine-wight, and now his two newest thralls traveled in secret through Aleria to join their master's side. In Valatsu, Phaedra remained by her new master's side while Sin sent Aaron to stop the efforts of the Order of the Eon Eye to secure Professor Owlscar to help them in stopping the Deep Dominion's invasion of Homeworld. Though Professor Owlscar was rescued by the Eon Eye, several of their agents were killed, including a paladin named Asher whom Aaron transformed into another vine-wight. The following year, in 3587 CE, Phaedra and Asher accompanied their master to the Thicketfell, in the Thornlands, in order to oversee the excavation of Lochmar's old tower on the shore of the Moonmere, and to attempt complete a ritual that would use the Moonmere to call forth a monstrous elder beast. The ritual was foiled by the Eon Eye's elite agents, Gray Vengeance, who destroyed Master Sin. Phaedra and Asher were unable to come to their master's aid because they were beset by a squad of Sun paladins lead by Arkus Blackhand, the lone surviving agent from the mission to rescue Professor Owlscar. In the end, Phaedra was destroyed by Arkus and his paladins. After the battle was over, her remains were identified her former commanding officer, High Captain Ambrose Varis. He had them shipped back to Lokar, where they are interred in the catacombs of the Cathedral of the Stars.
