Dhakab Fakir

Dhakab Fakir was born in 3559 CE, the son of a minor noble in the city of Ahsaratt. During the Elses-Akura war, when the Sultan was away on a diplomatic mission to Kedesh, the tribes of Akura invaded the Ahsaratt River basin and attacked the city. The hero of that battle, who rallied the Elses forces after the city walls had been breached and drove them against the unprotected Akuran rear, was Pujadna the Storyteller, Dhakab's father. Unfortunately, Pujadna was mortally wounded in the battle, and died soon after.   When the Sultan returned, he honored Pujadna's widow, Miera, by taking her as a wife. Miera accepted so that the infant Dhakab could have all the advantages of the Sultan's wealth and influence.   Life as an adopted son of the Sultan agreed with young Dhakab. He received the best tutors, and was allowed to pursue his private interests. He quickly learned all the court instructors could teach him of the art of war. It is said that he could best full-grown warriors of the court when he was only twelve years old. Yet, being the best in court did not satisfy Dhakab; he wanted to be the greatest warrior ever raised by the Elses.   To this end, he left the court in his twenty-third year and journeyed into the desert to search for the tribe of ascetics who used the art of war as a devotional exercise. Surprisingly, Dhakab was accepted by the ascetics spiritual leader, Benial Ghamiz, and spent ten long years in desert, training, meditating, and studying. His body was hardened by the harsh elements, his spirit by self-denial.   When he was finally satisfied that he had learned all he could among the community of ascetics, he returned to Ahsaratt, but again became quickly disillusioned with courtly life. While frequenting one of the common markets, he met a half-elf cleric of Cabrael named Galadreal, and the pair instantly became friends. Galadreal explained that he was journeying to the North, to seek out the city of Lidea, well-known as a haven for fellow half-breeds like himself. Though Galadreal's final destination held no interest for Dhakab, the prospect of travelling through a land as foreign as the Northern Kingdoms captured his imagination as a chance to truly test his skills. Dhakab agreed to accompany Galadreal on his journey, and they left the next day, with Dhakab leaving no notice to his friends and family among the court as to his whereabouts.   In the city of Liem, Dhakab and Galadreal parted ways. Dhakab found the city with its myriad of races and cultures, endlessly fascinating, and quickly learned that he could hone his skills in the occasional street fight or bar brawl that broke out with little interference from the local constabulary. His skills and reputation were soon noticed by Tarrus the One-Eyed, who was on the lookout for retainers to retrieve the legendary Keys of Telku, but before Tarrus could contact him, Dhakab was approached by an agent of the Black Guard, the secret police of Carthia, who was in Liem recruiting Adventurers. He asked Dhakab to help the Black Guard investigate smuggling in Distryll, including the trafficking of slaves, by going undercover. Dhakab was intrigued by the challenge and agreed, travelling to Distryll and staking at the Serpent's Tooth tavern, a notorious dive near the docks where much illicit trade agreements were made. However, after a couple months of quietly gathering information and ingratiating himself into the underworld of Distryll, Dhakab was surprised to see Galadreal stroll into the Serpent's Tooth one day, accompanied by a band of Adventurers, the same retainers of Tarrus the One-Eyed to which the Lord of Liem had hoped to recruit Dhakab. Though their reunion was friendly enough, Dhakab's cover was almost blown when Galadreal, who had a deep hatred of slavers, began to suspect that Dhakab was among their evil ilk and accused him of such. Dhakab was able to convince Galadreal that this was not the case, and after the Adventurers' mission in Distryll was complete, Galadreal chose to stay, having inherited a dilapidated orphanage/Temple of Vespera that he hoped to convert to a temple of Cabrael in order to convert others to his faith. Dhakab and Galadreal remained friends, with Dhakab continuing to do missions for the Black Guard, as well has helping his cleric friend in his endeavors.   However, restlessness once more overtook the Adventurer, and when one day in the first month of 3593 CE Dhakab received a message from the Tarrus the One-Eyed summoning him back to Liem, he took it as a sign of opportunity. In Liem, assembled in the audience chamber of the Lord Tarrus, Dhakab found himself in a motley company of fellow Adventurers: Night, ninja of the Amita K'un; Shadolok the half-elven ranger and expert marksman; Bladehelm, a surly dwarven exile from Stoneholm; Argent, a young wizard; and Sultar, a gnomish fire cleric who seemed to be more than what he appeared.
