Merchant Troupe of Vergadain

A group of dwarves have banded together to create a merchant troupe. The troupe appears to honor Waukeen (wah-KEEN), the neutral Faerûnian goddess of commerce and wealth through free and fair trade, even if it's illicit. However, only members of the troupe know that they really honor Vergadain (VUR-guh-dain), the neutral dwarven god of luck, trickery, negotiation, and wealth. Vergadain watches specifically over dwarves who may use less-than-legal means to gain wealth.   As such, many of the games are rigged to reduce the odds of a player winning, but not all. Dwarves who view a commoner intending to purchase an item that doesn't meet dwarven standards might view that commoner as a mark, and charge a higher price than usual. Or sell them a potion that has a wild magic side effect that would be unexpected. Whatever funds they gain from grift are split 50% / 50% with half going to the priests and priestesses of Vergadain, and the other half split equally between all troupe members.   Individual troupe members have their own reasons for participating. Some are trying to raise funds to send home to their dwarven clan. Some want to become a Prince or Princess of a city, when they've accumulated enough wealth. Some want to use their extra funds to purchase ancient artifacts or magic items. And some do it just because they feel that grifting is fun and proves they're smarter than everyone else (other than other grifters).   This troupe travels to different areas within Faerûn to trade. Some members of the troupe are merchant vendors, some are entertaining performers who gather crowds, some offer carnival games, some act as inconspicuous mercenary guards, some belong to a thieves guild, and, of course, some of them make and serve food and ale. When they visit an area, they set up various colorful tents and stalls near an area where a large number of people might pass on a daily basis, so they can attract the most visitors to their carnival.
