Kingdom of Abalant

The Kingdom of Abalant is a sovereign nation in the continent of Agelua that has been locked in a war with the neighbouring Kingdom of Midia. Both nations are descended from one original Kingdom, the Kingdom of Elraba.

Structure

Abalantine is a feudal kingdom, and is ruled by King Birwed, the former Duke of Abalant in the days of the Kingdom of Elraba. Along with his wife Queen Aofr, the King has absolute power, checked only by the loyalty of his council, for which there are ten members. Each of the members of the council represents a house deeply loyal to Abalant, and see it in their best interests to pursue the course of war in order to claim the lands of Midia.

Abalant is constantly trying to find allies to support its cause, and to this end pursue resources in order to continue war production.

History

Originally the easten half of the Kingdom of Elraba, the lands now belonging to Abalant were once spread across various duchies (Ekroo, Hardigar, Sereso, etc.) but were consolidated into Abalant and passed on as a ducal inheritance to the younger sons of the King of Elraba (a tradition started by King Rowan II in HY 840). Abalant enjoys large pastoral lands, and in the final days of Elraba was known to be rich in iron stores and other material wealth.

The Divide, and the War of the Petty Princes

King Erminus IV the Blessed died, and his two sons, Alwed (Duke of Midia) and Birwed (Duke of Abalant) split the kingdom in two, forming nations named after their respective duchies. However, this was not enough, and the brothers craved the territory of the other. The Abalantines were the first to strike, and in HY 1109 launched an attack on the Midian capital. Alwed (now King of Midia), began the counter-offensive, and thus both nations were locked in a war that has devastated the economies of both sides. This has resulted in both nations being deprived of infrastructure and resources, and each nation has thus looked to other nations for aid. For Abalant, this has manifested in the sending of envoys to countries like Praya and Bandalia, while Midia searches for allies in Stormholme and Agni.
