Montagu's rebellion against The Enokkian Empire

Background

Montagu is a region to the north of the Enokkian empire as of the 1699th year of the Enokkian calendar. It is seperated from the empire both by the dangerous mountain chain present at much of the northern reaches of the continent of Enokk, and more recently, by the fact that the land these days levitate hundreds of meters above the ground even at its lowest point thanks to the actions of the arch-sorcerer Anat Montagu.

The Conflict

Prelude

The region now known as Montagu was formerly a colony of The Enokkian empire, seperated from the main body of the empire by a dangerous mountain range, the region was filled with swamps, monsters and little of import. It was primearilly part of the empire because a noble's son wanted his own lands, and went past the mountainrange to get them, where nobody could stand in his way.

The noble had chidlren and a noble family was born. While, like all nobles of The Enokkian empire, these nobles were heavenblessed, and as such were unable to lie, they were of the school of thought that angelbloods were superior in every way, and thought Montagu was a backwater in the middle of nowhere, and were often unhappy about the region they ruled.

They attempted to gain power by creating Wizard schools and fostering a system that benefitted wizardkind within the region, however, the wizards themselves were not treated as equals, and over time grew to despise the nobles that saw them as nothing but tools and resources to be sent over to the empire to fill in their armies.

Deployment

The Beginning

Planning

The rebellion started simply, for 6 years Anat Montagu and his future wife Allindri Montagu planned how to execute the rebellion, and how to survive the future. Tey collected allies and likeminded individuals, and used Allindri's connection to the fae to create charms to fool the nobles of their realm.

The Night of Betreyal

The first act of war of the rebellion was the betreyal, and execution, of the noble family, ending the lives of every man, woman and child within the family, and all who served them directly that had not joined arms with the rebellion.

The War

The war was a gruelling affair, lasting for five years, it was primarily a defencive war depending on the rebellion's superiority in raw force thanks to their arch-wizard and an arch-sorcerer.

However, they were outnumbered, their enemy had superior resources, and the only reason they lasted as long as they did was that the empire was always embroiled in a number of holy wars, and that Montagu was considered too unimportant to be focussed on by anyone of import.

The End

However, it could not last. The Crowned himself was on his way, and they could not hope to challange the Divine Emissary of The light itself, the emissary of one of the world's Nine Great Gods.

It is said that in an act of desperation, Anat Montagu cast the greatest spell cast by mortal hands in millennia, sacrificing not only his life, but his very soul and magic to lift the land itself into the sky, seperating the land from the ground, and ensuring the Enokkian empire would leave them alone for the time being.
The spell had not only lifted the land, but it had taken the life-force from the ground and surrounding lands, and infused them into the magic, causing a zone of undeath to be born forth in the shadow of the island. The empire decided it was not worth it, to win this conflict, The Crowned would either have to waste his power to destory the island, or waste his time dismantling the spell. As his time was too valuable, he instead retreated, giving the victory to the Montagians.
