Prosthetic Gem Eyes

The latest craze in prosthetic technology, prosthetic gems eyes have become extremely popular among the elite, both for their beauty and status. Any kind of gemstone can be used, making them very customizable. Popular gems include emeralds, sapphires, brown topaz, etc. Some individuals may choose to go with more exotic colors and gems, such as amethyst, citrine, tiger's eye, etc.

Utility

The Prosthetic Gem Eye was developed as a fancier alternate prosthetic eye. Mostly used as a status symbol for the rich, some individuals have had it enchanted, giving them limited vision from this eye.
Access & Availability
Despite becoming very popular the fact that the prosthetic requires a large gemstone means that only those with a lot of coin can afford them. Sometimes they will be gifted to war heroes as a reward for their bravery.
Complexity
The Prosthetic Gem Eye is relatively simple in design and typically doesn't restore vision, however someone people with have it enchanted to allow them to see using the prosthetic. It doesn't restore their vision completely back to normal, and many say that their vision through that prosthetic makes it look like they are viewing through the gemstone.
Discovery
The Prosthetic Gem Eye was originally developed by the DeepGleam Company. Due to the large amounts of gems that the DeepGleam Mines produces they are constantly trying to develop new products to sell, especially to the rich. When Madame DeepGleam overheard a noble complaining about her current prosthetic, she had a prototype made from a gem that she knew the noble loved, and gave it as a gift. The noble loved it, and it wasn't long until word spread, and requests for more personalized prosthetics came in. With a single gift, Madame Deepgleam found a specialized, but lucrative market niche that she was able to quickly dominate.
