Lycanthropy is a condition were a humanoid transforms into a beast form. Some change depending on the time of day, while others can change depending on the phase of one of the moons. There are many different subtypes of this condition, with folks transforming into various beasts from wolves, rabbits, tigers, crocodiles, etc.
Often those with this condition become reclusive, living on the edge of society or alone in the wilderness.

Transmission & Vectors

There are typically two ways one can get this condition. The most common way, is to be born with the condition, having inherited it from a parent. This is known as Familial Lycanthropy. More rare is when one developes the condition, typically through a bite after being attacked by an individual with the condition. This is known as Afflicted Lycanthropy.

Symptoms

The first sign that someone is a Lycanthrope is if they have unusually heightened senses, such as better smelling, excellent vision in darkness, and even a ability to communicate with creatures related to their specific form of lycanthropy. Another sign is if they develop traits of their beast form, even when not transformed, such as sharper teeth, shaggy hair, etc.
The most obvious symptom, is their transformations from folk to beast. Those with Familial Lycanthropy tend to have better control over their changes, being able to control when they transform, what form they take, their own actions, etc. While folk with Afflicted Lycanthropy can eventually do these things as well, it takes a while for them to learn these, and newly infected individuals tend to be more aggressive and at the mercy of their own transformations.

Treatment

Those that are born with lycanthropy are unable to cure themselves of this condition, but those newly infected have a small window of opportunity to rid themselves of the condition. They must drink a potion made with wolfsbane before their first transformation, if they don't the condition becomes permanent.

Cultural Reception

Tend to avoid being near civilizations when in hybrid or beast form to avoid persecution.
