Months and days
The names of the months are given their familiar English names, rather than those from Old Norse or Old English. This is because the calendar was standardised across the Fortunate Isles in 1582, under the influence of human captives who had brought new technologies to Andlang.
In Alfheim, the familiar Western days and months are used, with one minor but important change. The sixth day of the week is called Norday instead of Saturday, in honour of the god Njörðr, father of Freyr (first king of Alfheim) and thus the most revered of all the gods. His day is considered the most holy day of the week, given over to feasting and celebration, with the seventh day a time of rest and recuperation (to recover from the hangovers!).
Festivals
The main festivals in Alfheim are the summer and winter solstices and, to a lesser extent, the equinoxes. Some of neighbouring Tir Tairngire's festivals have also been adopted in recent years, particularly May Day (Beltane) and Halloween (Samhain).
