Taysiel
Azarael's personal assistant and apprentice, one of the missing Lost Fledglings.
Physical Description
Taysiel usually presents as African-American with dark skin and very dark eyes. He has made a conscious effort to adopt some of Rishona's facial features and mannerisms, though he has adopted Milo's smile.
Taysiel is incredibly clumsy for an angel, often tripping over his wings and knocking things over. His wings usually drag on the ground because he has yet to perfect the primary-cross hold that most adult angels use. This means the longest primaries are usually broken or bent.
Mental characteristics
Taysiel's cohort of fledglings was created in 1975, the last to be created before God sent the Blessed Choir to Earth. He was raised and trained by
Milo and
Rishona, coming to consider them his parents. After his parents' defection, he was adopted by
Azarael, who intends to continue his education.
The loss of his parents was extremely traumatic for Taysiel, since he had bonded to them the way many fledglings bond to others in their cohort. As a result, he is reluctant to engage in new relationships, shy of meeting new people and generally keeps to himself. He is often lonely, though he will not admit this to anyone but
Rishona.
Personality Characteristics
Taysiel is extremely curious about everything and wants to learn. He also wants to be free to express himself.
Taysiel loves to skydance, moreso than any other in his cohort. While under Azarael's tutelage, he frequently sneaks out and dances at night over Manhattan, especially when he's lonely or emotionally overwhelmed.
When under duress, Taysiel loses the ability to control his appearance, often resulting in random changes to his facial features that can be disorienting or disturbing for humans. In particular, his eyebrows like to become caterpillar-like and crawl around his face. He also is prone to self-injury when upset and has been known to pull out his feathers and hair.
Social
Milo is his original trainer and Taysiel refers to him as his father.
Rishona is his other original trainer and Taysiel refers to her as his mother.
Taysiel is shy in the presence of both humans and other angels. He tends to not talk much unless he is one-on-one with someone.
Before their parting, Milo taught Taysiel calligraphy and gave him a pen and ink set. Taysiel continues to practice but only if he doesn't think Azarael will find out.
History
Azarael adopted Taysiel as his apprentice and assistant after Milo and Rishona defected and their training cohort was reassigned.
Nicknames & Petnames
Azarael often calls Taysiel "my child" or "my son." Taysiel always addresses Azarael as "avua" or "sir."
Relationship Reasoning
Azarael views Taysiel as a wrong that must be righted in order for God's will to be fulfilled, since he views Rishona as a negative, corrupting influence. Azarael also recognizes Taysiel's intelligent, curious nature and wishes to foster that, as he sees some of himself there.
Taysiel is resistant to Azarael's attempts to "reeducate" him. He loves his parents and sees nothing wrong with Rishona's identifying as female. He views Azarael as a jailer for the most part and the violent captor who stole him from his parents.
