The Emerald Legion Organization in An Open Door | World Anvil

The Emerald Legion

The Emerald Legion, a band of goblin and goblinoid mercenaries, was founded six hundred years ago on the Verdant Isles - a chain of islands once controlled by the militaristic nation of Azer. The Legion quickly rose to power during the chaotic fighting amongst the neighboring nations of Bante, Zaerus, Azer, and Lemor, taking advantage of the turmoil to wrest control of the islands from Azer.   Despite their reputation of serving whoever has the most coin, the Emerald Legion is known to be fiercely loyal to their employers once their services are bought. However, they adhere to one strict rule: they will not use lethal force against their own. If their employer pits them against members of their own legion they will fight until a member can no longer fight, those members are dismissed from the contract and considered 'killed in action'. They are paid their way back to the Verdant Isles where they can rejoin the legion.   The Legion's motto is "For profit and honor" and they are often hired for their skill in combat and tactics. Their distinctive armor and weapons are highly sought after by those who can afford their services. Be wary, however, as their loyalty can be bought by anyone with enough coin.

Structure

The Emerald Legion is a hierarchical organization with a military-style chain of command. At the top is the Legion Commander, who is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization. Beneath the Legion Commander are the various officers who lead different units within the Legion, such as the archers, infantry, and cavalry. Finally, at the bottom are the rank-and-file members who make up the bulk of The Emerald Legion.

Culture

The Emerald Legion is known for its fierce loyalty to its members and its willingness to take on any job, no matter how dangerous. They are a pragmatic group who believe that strength and skill are the most important qualities in a warrior. They have a strong sense of camaraderie and brotherhood, and they take pride in their ability to overcome any obstacle.

Public Agenda

The Emerald Legion is primarily motivated by profit, and will take on any job as long as the pay is right. However, they also have a reputation for being honorable mercenaries who keep their word and follow a strict code of conduct. They are known to fight for the underdog and will often take on jobs that other mercenary groups would refuse.

Assets

The Emerald Legion has amassed significant wealth over the years through their mercenary work. They have a large fleet of ships that they use to transport their troops and equipment from place to place, as well as a network of contacts and allies throughout the region. They also have a number of strongholds and fortifications that they use as bases of operations.

History

The Emerald Legion was founded six hundred years ago, during a time of great turmoil in the region. The Verdant Isles were then under the control of the Azer, but fighting among the neighboring nations of Bante, Zaerus, and Lemor provided a group of enterprising privateers the chance to take control of the islands. The group, which would eventually become known as the Emerald Legion, was led by a charismatic goblin named Garret, who had a reputation for being a shrewd negotiator and a skilled tactician.   As the Legion grew in numbers, it gained a reputation for serving whoever had the most coin. However, once their service was bought, they were loyal to the end. Their one rule was that if an employer ever pitted them against their own, they refused to use lethal force. Instead, any members of the Legion who were bested would be dismissed from the contract and their employer would consider them a loss. These members would have their way back to the Verdant Isles paid, where they would rejoin the Legion.   Over the centuries, the Emerald Legion became a force to be reckoned with, and their expertise in battle was sought after by many. They fought in wars and conflicts all over the region, and their prowess on the battlefield was legendary. Despite their reputation for being loyal only to the highest bidder, the Legion had a code of honor that they never broke. They were known for being fair and just, even to their enemies.   As the years passed, the Legion became more organized and structured. They established a headquarters on the largest island of the Verdant Isles, and set up a system of ranks and titles to manage their growing numbers. The Legion continued to thrive, even as the region around them changed.   Today, the Legion is still going strong, and their services are still in high demand. They continue to operate under the same code of honor that they established six hundred years ago, and their reputation as a skilled and loyal mercenary group is still unmatched.
