Summer Camp Reading Challenge 2024
We survived. You did great guys *thumbs up as I wither away*Part of Summer Camp homework this year was to find a community. I have Game of Tomes. And NathaliaBooks1993 went a step further and created a page with all of us in GoT who took part in Summer Camp: So, here is an article from each person I thought was pretty neat:
NathaliaBooks1993 - A church for a diety, Volaris, its structure (leader, preists, paladins), history (I like that is it segemented like a timeline) and a bunch of other fascinating things. It looks nice too - well laid out with a nice rose design between segments.
WordiGirl - Having a bath for chicken pox ... yeah, I remember my younger siblings had to do that. 'Out sick' doesn't really mean that here though - it could be for various reasons, but W.I.L.L.O.W.I.S.P is behind it ... Neat way to answer the prompt and leave the reader excited for more.
Kitopoy - Love the instructor and sergeant's comments at the beginning of each article. Love that dance is a part of the tournament for such an elite warrior/leader the Red Feather Battlemaster).
RPGDinosaurBob - Dwarven bacon - what meat was it really? Actually, it doesn't matter. Love that the myth and truth are very close, but kind of missing the point - and then those in the know try to keep it that way as well.
Satrium - Changlings can fully transform into the looks of another person at will. Then they may choose certain elements of the people they have transformed into to create a favoured version of their own. Neat to read that their observance of appearance extends into insight of other people and being able to determine things like body language as well.
SableAradia - We're going places, as long as we're living! Portals are fun and having them in the GoTverse is pretty handy. Nice to see how they work better (I mean, my character knew from building the Chiroptera one, me on the other hand ... :P). Seeing them being further used (after people moving) to transport shipping (and associated lowering of costs) is pretty neat!
Dazzlinkat - A seasonal battle between sea creatures in the reef. it's written well and in easy to read chunks. Nice having the leaders and armies in the top section, then the story of their battle afterwards. Very colourful, including both sea creatures and the enironment they are fighting in.
DragonMagpie - A sister with 4 siblings is very simialr to my own family structure (except I am the eldest and Syl was somewhere in the middle). An attack at the pier left one sister with a phobia of water and the other with an obsession of water - as well as a job under Death. That was fun to read about the family characters, their responses to the sisters after the attack, and then that Syl had made a deal with Death to save her sister in return for working under him.
ShyRedFox - A tengu (normally callous trickers)'s story who was saved by the Great Tengu and grew to serve him very well. I loved that it wasn't just the wild tengu being saved (from retribution of a human village he had terrorised beforehand), but that he watched and learnt from the Great Tengu continually afterwards, continuing his growth into what he is today.
Moonflower - I love that 'a refuge against the world' is a tucked-away restaurant. And the menu is so much fun (not just because it has my character in it :P) ... I really wanna eat that lamb burger right away though... (I hope the size is large)
Lady Wynter - Three groups that are very distinct yet have the same desire to bring their people closeness with the ir goddess. But they left as the people would not get closer. I liked the inclusion of how the people view the groups that left them, as well as the festivals to honour each of the 3 groups.
Mikaro - A warning letter that saved thousands - though after the event it was clear that it couldn't have been so smooth if nothing was known or prepared beforehand. I love that there is a 'good' and 'bad' theories for what happened in the lead up to the document being ready in time. JC Boom - A series of natural disasters covering the world, up to changing the calendar length, lunar cycle and magnetic pole of the world. She really wrote large scale! It was nice to read the except at the end of the article, seeing how characters within the world talked about the Desolation.
I was gonna do more, but no time ;P
Next time maybe...
Worldbuilding Goals...
I have so much on the next half year i cannot guarantee anything, I don't even know if I will be able to enter any other challenges this year... (even this entry was so last minute I'm sure I've missed at least half of what I would have liked to say about each article. Regardless, well done all who participated in any form <3 )So for my own mental health, my only goal is to have a little bit of fun when/if I can :)
