2021-12-22 - Artificer Down
General Summary
We found our scoundrels, and one scoundrel in particular, asleep and dreaming. In the dream Cassius was being chased through a mannor by some unseen thing behind him. He was able to understand that it wasn't his own dream he was having, but instead some kind of vision. The individual who was fleeing was about to the front door of the mannor when, as if out of no where, two individuals appeared blocking the way. The dream ended with the dreamer being struck down and collapsing with a thud.
Hurmir woke Cassius up and told him they had a job. Tillie had grown tired of the slow rate at which the constibilary have taken to dealing with the death of Artificers and now things are signifciatnly more serious. Another artificer, Safka, was found and this time he's a proctor at Bygoth's Academy of Artificy. The two arove at the manor and there they found the body in the entryway. It was the same manor that Cassius had been dreaming about and he felt his stomach turn when he saw the body.
The constables stepped outside which Hurmir inspected the body, which had been opened up on the floor. Most of the organs had been removed. During his investiagion they found several clues, a naturally occuring barb embedded in the skin, evidence of crystalization on the inside of the flesh, and salt around the body. They also found a mechanical item in the hand of Safka.
Once they'd exhausted their investigation of the body they explored the house and interviewed the servents including the elderly dragonborn house master, Alyne Staleer. While investigating Safka's study they found a device where they were able to connect the device found in Safka's hand and saw that it was a projector of somekind that had capture the artificer's last moments and also projected them to Cassius while he slept.
Upon futher investigation they found evidence that several individuals, Le a teacher at the college and her possible boyfriend Sephek Kaltro might be people worthy of deeper investigation.
As they were about to leave the house they hear a commontion in the closet and opening it, they released a bat which flew at them and turned into a humanoid creature. After a quick battle the creature was defeated and an answer was provided, the creatures that had stopped Safka's exit had been bats that transformed into humanoids to block his path.
The Keeper provided more helpful information. They took the barb to him to see if he could identify it and while he was stumped he suggested they speak to the resident insect expert in the city, a professor at Bygoth's named Le.
The scoundrels knew their next steps, get to the college and explore under the cover of night. Cassius planned to find keys and enter the college after hours looking for more evidence of Le's involvement.
