Alix Elnezhad

Major Alix Elnezhad

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Alix is tall and lean, preferring agility and defensive tactics in battle over physical bulk. She has the traditional sharp features and pointy ears of elves, and often wears elaborate golden decorations along her ears. Her lean body and angular face give her a noticeably androgynous demeanor, and with the right haircut she and her twin brother are near identical. She dresses in clothes considered more for men than women, preferring slacks, button-downs, and suit jackets over conventional blouses or dresses. She despises wearing skirts. With her hair cut short, this often leads to confusion over whether the Major is a man or a woman, a fact that has been quite useful during her time as a spy.

Personal history

Early life -- 1825-1853

Alix was born to Sayyid and Valerie Elnezhad, two elves living in Eskenianar ('the home of the people of the sun' in Elvish, now Sevastopol) in the 1800s. Valerie Marchand was originally French, but met Sayyid on a religious pilgrimage to the holy sites in Sevastopol in the late 1700s.   Sevastopol (and all of Crimea) is a holy land for the “sunrise elves” – elves with bronze skin and golden hair. They claim that the island was blessed by an ancient sun god, and cared for many cities and temples dedicated to the worship of the sun. Sevastopol was their greatest city, city streets scattered with glittering temples and libraries filled with relics and studies of elven scholars over the years. As Crimea changed hands over the years, the elves were dispassionate about the nation they belonged to, happy to live alongside any humans as long as their culture was respected. The humans (particularly the Russians) were curious about the strange religion and traditions of the elves, but captivated by their ethereal grace and elegant forms.   Alix grew up happy with her family in Sevastopol, cared for by her mother while her father worked making stunning ceramics, selling both locally in Crimea as well as overseas through Valerie’s connections in France. Her older sister was a cleric to the sun god, but neither Alix or Percy cared much for religious devotion, preferring to spend time in the city among the market hawkers and bars, meeting tourists and explorers arriving to see the elven wonders.

Crimean War -- 1854

Their happy life in Sevastopol was shattered during the siege of Sevastopol in 1854 during the Crimean War. The Russians, desperate after eleven months for anything to give them an edge over the invading British, French, and Ottoman forces, began to raid the elven holy places for artifacts and weapons. This led to a siege within a siege – the elves quartering themselves in one side of the city, surrounded by Russian troops desperate for magical aid. Chaos broke out as the British forces began to bombard the city, with elves and men fighting in the streets as buildings crumbled around them. Sayyid gathered his family to try and flee the city, but Zahra was determined to stay and fight for her temple. Alix and her mother begged Zahra to leave with them, but their conversation was cut short as an explosion destroyed the area, scattering people and debris every which way. When Alix came to, she was being shaken by Percy. Her father was nearby, helping Zahra get upright, but there was no sign of her mother. They spent the next three days searching through the rubble, but found no trace of Valerie. As the British and French entered the city on August 28th, Alix and her family were among the heavy-eyed elves standing in the wreckage of the once-great city, now abandoned by the Russians. Shortly after, the family left the city with what belongings and heirlooms they could carry, including the double-bladed sword that Alix carries, which was once a holy relic of the sun god’s temples.

Education at Oxford ~1860s

After the destruction of Sevastopol, there was a significant diaspora of elves fleeing their lost holy land, some elsewhere in Crimea, and others to the European mainland to escape Russia territory, blaming the Russians for the destruction of their homeland. Sayyid took his family to France to connect with Valerie’s family, and settled in an elvish area near Paris. Zahra was particularly shaken by the loss of her culture, and fell into the radical art scene, eventually ending up with the revolutionary dancers in Paris at the end of the 1800s. Alix, enraptured with the various European cultures, desired more education, but found herself greatly limited by being a woman. She and Percy hatched a plan: Percy applied and was accepted to Oxford University in England, and Alix followed him there, cutting her hair and wearing loose-fitting clothes to attend lectures while pretending to be her brother. The two successfully hid their secret for four years, each taking separate classes. Alix was slightly bitter that she could not participate in the degree ceremony, but Percy consoled her, assuring her that the degree was meant for both of them.   During her time at Oxford, Alix became very close with an elven classmate, Cyrus Northcott, one of the handful of people trusted with knowledge of the twins’ deception. The two were off and on for over 100 years, never finding a time when their lives allowed them to settle down with each other as he pursued a reckless adventure-chasing lifestyle. She has not heard from him in years, after she last knew that he was on an expedition to Jordan.

Marriage and the turn of the century

After her ‘graduation,’ she spent many years traveling Europe, getting to know its people and history. During her travels, she met Constantin Meitner, an Austrian archaeologist specializing in ancient Ottoman relics. The two clicked over their shared love of history, and after several years of courting, the two were married in 1876. Alix spent 30 happy years married to Constantin, visiting museums and archaeological digs, often soliciting funding using her elven charms for her more antisocial husband. When he died of an illness contracted on an archaeological trip (likely tuberculosis) at the age of 67, she inherited his artifacts, and continued to work with museums to distribute his legacy after his death.

WWI

At the start of WWI, she scorned the war and retreated with her father to Switzerland, waiting for the petty humans to play out their political games. However, Percy was driven by his ideologies, with strong feelings about the worrisome German expansion. He decided to help the French and English governments, serving as a spy against German forces. However, towards the end of the war, he was betrayed by one of his most trusted German contacts and captured. The Germans heavily publicized his capture and interrogation, claiming that he gave up critical military intel (although in reality, he remained staunchly silent despite their best efforts, both physical and magical.) After two weeks, he was executed by a firing squad.

Life after the war

Alix was broken by the death of her twin, spending a couple years entirely withdrawn from society. While visiting his grave in France, she was approached by an officer who worked with Percy in the past, who propositioned that she continue her brother’s work in protecting freedom and democracy. Alix joined the English secret service, using her past experiences traveling Europe to aid in her new role as a spy specializing in extracting people and thing from various enemy territories. With the rise of Russophobia, she was more than happy to take on missions spying in Russia, but also did work in Germany and even America. She was critical in the discovery of the ARCOS operations leading to the raid in 1927, gaining her widespread respect among the English secret service.   Many other spies called her the “deathless agent,” confusing her with her deceased brother, a fact that Alix has attempted to use to sow confusion and fear among German agents in the most recent war. During this time, she entertained a short relationship with a German woman named Hannah. The relationship came to an end in 1933, however, when Hannah was swept up in rising nationalism and shunned her French lover, joining the Nazi party and rebuking her feelings for Alix. After their split, Alix requested to be transferred to Eastern Europe and conducted operations there through the start of the second World War, extracting assets and information from strategic target sites.

The Second Great War

In July 1941, Alix joined the Fruits, a secret organization responsible for covert black ops strikes against the Nazis. Under their previous commanding officers, they had led several highly successful missions against members of the Nachtwolfe, a German magitech development department. The SUA-ABK incident (see below) put Alix on the radar of the Nachtwolfe, so after the departure of their previous C.O. Alix was an obvious choice, and joined the Fruits as their new commanding officer along with a promotion to the rank of major.   In her first mission she experienced the destruction and subsequent resurrection of the city of Le Havre, France, setting the tone of her experiences with the Fruits to come. Throughout the next month, she would be implicated in the destruction of the Ploesti oil fields and the elimination of the high command of German Army Group Centre and Col. Rene Beloq, though the specifics remain highly classified.   On September 1st, 1941, Alix was kidnapped by German agents operating in London after a two-way misunderstanding of a trap that ended up being much more successful than it should have been otherwise. She was held in German custody in eastern Europe and interrogated for a month and a half, staunchly refusing to reveal any information about the war effort, only personal details concerning [REDACTED]. Upon her rescue by the Fruits during her transportation to Berlin on the request of Joseph Goebbels, she and the Fruits killed Reichsmarshal Heinrich Himmler: a fitting end for a vile man to be killed by two gays, two communists, two Russians, and a Jew.

1941-1945

While the remainder of the Fruits disbanded to hunt down the high-ranking German officials fleeing throughout Europe, the newly promoted Colonel Elnezhad remained in London, assisting in political negotiations as a liaison between the new German government and the War Office. When news of the fascist takeover of France and Paris hit, she immediately requested deployment to the city so close to her heart. With her clout from the proceedings of the past year, the fascist hold on Paris was quickly dispatched, and Alix began to develop a series of propaganda videos to rally the French countrymen and oust the rest of the fascists on their lands. An example of a script from the videos:
“My fellow French women and men-   For those who do not know me by sight, let me take the time to introduce myself - I am Alix Elnezhad, and I have been proudly French since 1865. While I was raised out of the country, I was born to a French mother, and after a great tragedy in my homeland, this country opened itself up to me and my family, and the sight of the Tricolor has since brought warmth to my heart, no matter where my travels have taken me.   I am also the commanding officer of the Fruits, and have spent the greater part of the last two years protecting the freedoms of the people of France, as well as greater Europe. Thus, current events in our great country have brought me great pain — to have fought and given so much and to see this country descend into madness is utterly heartbreaking.   The fascist Nazi scourge represent the worst of humanity — people with complete disregard for freedom of expression, who exist only to trample on others and destroy anything not in their image. France has so long been a haven for the most beautiful art and the most proud people who stand up against the tyranny of governments that overstep their bounds, and the disgusting swastika represents the eradication of all beautiful art and ability to resist tyrants. I have spent time in the custody of the SS, and still bear the scars of their hospitality. [she holds up her wrists] They do not just preach doctrine against those they consider ‘degenerates’ — they jail them, starve them, torture them, and take some sick pleasure in executing these disgusting acts upon their prisoners, all while the citizens in the lands they occupy turn a blind eye.   To my fellow French countrymen — I implore you to resist with all your strength the creeping disease that are these fascist monsters. For the sake of your land and your people, and all those who gave their lives to resist and turn back the Nazi flood, do not let them continue to preach their blighted ideals upon our treasured soil.”
With her assistance, both through propaganda efforts and some targeted field operations (where she was joined by Basil Semenov,) the Allied reclamation of France proceeded far ahead of schedule, and the country’s government was finally returned to its rightful place: France in the hands of the French once more. The French were roused to vehemently anti-fascist sentiments, forcing any remaining SS members to flee. It was with great glee that Alix watched the red flags of the Nazis stripped from buildings and burned.   In 1943, she returned to Germany to take part in the Nuremberg trials, personally testifying against the SS officers responsible for her and her brother’s kidnapping. Seeing the man who killed her brother sentenced to twenty years, easily spending the rest of his life behind bars, was a moment of joy greater than she had experienced in many years. During this extended stay in Germany, she reconnected with Hannah, and while the two would never be as close again, Alix ensured that Hannah’s daughter would be taken care of with a secret annual deposit of $10,000. It would be many more years until Alix could truly forgive Hannah, but she found some comfort in spending time with a close friend once again.

June 21st, 1946

After interrogations of Andreas Frank, the German officer who had captured and killed Percy in 1917, Alix finally found the location of her brother's body, which had been unceremoniously buried after his execution. After digging up the body, she compiled a large floating pyre with traditional decorations as well as the bones of her people she had rescued from the ruins of the temple in Sevastopol in 1941. Joined by her sister, her father, and near one hundred other Sun Elves who had fled Sevastopol, she led one final funeral rite for those they had lost, launching the pyre into the Atlantic from a French coast city as the sun set on the solstice, its flames blending with the final light of the sun before disappearing over the horizon.

The West Russia War

Alix was drawn to the conflict of the West Russia wars along with the rest of the now-disbanded Fruits, serving more behind the scenes than on the front lines. She convinced U.N. to attempt ‘Operation Leto,’ whereby a German agent pretended to be Heinrich Himmler, having escaped death because of demonic deals he had made during the war. This agent convinced some of the SS platoons to march towards Yugoslavia, where ‘Himmler’ claimed the country was so weakened by the war it would easily be taken over to establish the Fourth Reich. The plan was a moderate success, splitting off a small fraction of the entrenched SS forces that were easily rounded up by Allied forces once mobilized. Alix was satisfied knowing that many lives had been saved, surrendering once surrounded by the Allies instead of fighting to the death in the swamps of western Russia. Her success in developing Operation Leto (so named because, in her words, “it’s about someone pretending to be someone else and then someone getting fucked,”) landed her a position working on foreign policy for NATO. She did not regret being away from the front lines, and enjoyed a decade spent in comfort traveling throughout Europe and visiting many friends old and new.

[REDACTED]

Beginning in the mid-50s, Alix began to experience [REDACTED]. Alix consulted her sister Zahra, who was familiar with religious and magical phenomena due to her clerical training in Sevastopol. [REDACTED]. Alix turned to morphine to dull the pain, which worked until 1960, when [REDACTED]. Alix called out to Anar, knowing full well that it was not truly Anar who responded, but in this moment of weakness reaching out to the god who had once been so close to her and had come to her aid. ‘Anar’ proposed a deal: she would become his paladin once more and pledge her service, and he would [REDACTED] Alix took the deal, and [REDACTED].

Deployment to COPROSP

With this newfound connection to her god, Alix decided it was finally time to track down his presence in the Far East, seeking out her “new home,” as the sun god put it. She dedicated the spear to him once more, and requested to return to field work in COPROSP under the codename “Percival”. NATO deployed her first to Hong Kong, where she found the city a hotbed for spies for both NATO and COPROSP. After spending a couple years settling in and establishing contacts, Alix made her way to mainland China under a fake Turkish identity. (Japan itself had security too tight for her current alibis to safely cover operations there.)   Throughout her recon missions, she discovered that the site of the killing of an ancient dragon was now a holy pilgrimage site for followers of Anar. This discovery was of great use to NATO, as nearby the holy site was a secret Japanese military base using the remains of the dragon to develop powerful magic potions. NATO dispatched more agents to monitor the base and follow the distribution of these items.   Alix traveled back and forth between mainland China and Hong Kong for the next few years while digging into the cult following Anar had gained. While the Japanese government had stamped out most other religious orders, there were some records she found that the Japanese government could be funding this group. The religion was only increasing numbers of followers and growing at an incredibly rapid pace. When Alix revealed to a congregation in Hong Kong that she was in possession of two out of three of Anar’s holy weapons, she was at first met with reverence and awe that quickly turned sour once she declared that she was not looking to give the weapons away or leaving them in COPROSP. After two separate attempts to steal the weapons from her, she voiced her displeasure to ‘Anar’, claiming that a god as great as him could only have the finest warriors bear his arms, and she would not give the weapons up to anyone remotely unworthy of their possession. After this, she was recalled to Europe to give updates to NATO leaders on the situation in Hong Kong and the areas of China she had explored, giving her a much-needed break from the tense atmosphere of the East.

Sexuality

Very VERY bisexual, more interested in women than men but happy to have a drink with anyone who can keep up an intelligent conversation and isn't an asshole.

Accomplishments & Achievements

‘Sabotage’ of SUA-ABK Site IX - Dresselheim, Germany   SUA-ABK Site IX was a massive technological development site outside the town of Dresselheim, Germany, somewhere in lower Pomerania. Developed and built in secret to stabilize the so-called “Blauer-Kristalle”, or Blue Crystals, found naturally throughout the planet in certain magically-susceptible locations, the Dresselheim plant was built to convert them into a usable resource that would not cause people to lose their fucking minds when in constant contact with them. The previous conversion facility, SUA-ABK Site VII in Norsk, Norway, was destroyed by what the Germans believe to be the fruits in April 1940 weeks before they were prepared to begin the first tests. Headed by the famed French archeologist and researcher René Emile Belloq, Site IX was in the midst of the final phase in conversion testing in late April, 1941, when a catastrophic failure occurred.   Alix had been assigned to escort an important asset with information on the German eastern front from Belarusian territory back to a resistance group in France. Making their way through northern Germany, the two decided to stay the night in Dresselheim, but their cover was blown when the asset held up the incorrect fingers to order two drinks at the bar. With local Nazi officers pursuing them, Alix led her asset into the surrounding woods. She stumbled across the Site IX facility, where shipments of blue crystals were being trucked in for the final testing of a new conversion process. She lobbed a brick of explosives onto a truck, ignorant of what its cargo was, figuring that she would blow up a truck and cause enough of a distraction for her to escape. However, when she lit the explosives with a long-range spell as the truck reached the front gate, the truck was immolated in a massive blue explosion that shook the very earth and threw Alix and her asset to the ground. The explosion of the raw crystals set off a magical chain reaction that destabilized every crystal within the facility, causing more magical explosions and fires that raged out of control for hours. The new darling site of the SUA-ABK project was destroyed in a matter of seconds, and Alix and her asset fled westward to eventually reach France.   René Belloq survived despite being severely wounded. Belloq’s body was left in the rubble of Site IX for hours, where he came into contact with massive doses of raw Blauer-Kristalle and other extremely dangerous elements. Found by Liza Wolfe, whose crew was assigned to the site after its almost total destruction, he was taken to a sanitorium and healed using magic, which altered his mental state. After several months of R&R, Belloq committed himself to revenge; his work would not be sabotaged again, and the allies would be destroyed in the same way his body was; with fire and magic. Taking Liza under his wing, he recently learned of her death, and he now turns his gaze towards those that harmed her...

Vices & Personality flaws

"Not" addicted to opium. She can stop whenever she wants. Hey, at least it's gotten better since the 1920s -- she doesn't actually remember much of 1918 or 1919, and she certainly frequents much classier places than she did back in the day.

Letter from Percy, 1917
March 21st, 1917

My dearest A,   My hand writes heavy upon this page today, and my heart longs dearly to be with you again in this dark time. I hope you and Father are well, and sheltered from the chaos of this Great War.   I fear that I may only have a handful of sunrises left in my time. I believe I may have been betrayed by a man I have been working closely with, but I do not hold anger within myself against him – the man has a family to protect, just as I, and the decisions he makes are likely not his own. If someone held you to use against me, I cannot claim that I would act rationally either.   Dear sister, do not let these proceedings seed a darkness in your heart. You fought so adamantly against my departure for this service, but you know that I could never stand by while the war teeters on the brink of a great catastrophe. Some may call me foolish, some may call me brave, but I call it a duty to the good of the world. I was prepared for this eventuality from the day I left, and I only can hope that you do not blame me for following my beliefs.   I love you so deeply and profoundly, dear one. You burn so brightly, and the world needs those with your passion and heart to guide it. Do not let your fire fade, or these sacrifices will have been for naught.   Please look after Father, Zahra, and most of all, yourself. I will watch over you every day the sun shines upon your face. Perhaps I will find Mother there, in the great bright horizon?   All my love, P

'Hymn to Anar'

Northern winds O’er pastel clouds Tousled waves And foaming crests Near grey rock shores Anar’s weathered home   Red sun touches Red ocean crest Every horizon drawn Against sea, against sky Lines between here and Afar distant shores Never truly lost in Anar’s blessed home   Rising sun blesses us In health, in sickness Noon sun watches over Toiling workers, valiant soldiers His eyes watching coast to coast Evening sun tells us ‘Rest now, elven children Each day has an end So too must weary eyes rest To wake again tomorrow’ Anar’s welcoming home   Young sheep raise their eyes In green and rolling pastures Next to baying mother ewes Glorying at the light of the sun Come and hear the elven songs Listen to the ancient words O lord of light and fire Send us thine power Enlighten mortal minds Do good and kind deeds to others O lord of life and death Under temple awnings Blessings given, music plays Loudly raise your voice and say Eternal sunshine, blessed be Anar’s holy home   Gently go into the night Every love and goodbye said Never shed a tear, but patiently wait To meet again one day
