Players come to awareness spread out at a small farmstead. Corvis and Malik notice their rank of Altruist, while Atani and Left take note of their Enforcer rank of Guard. About equal in rank, and they all have a special makeshift badge on, vague eye symbol. Corvis catches the end of the conversation directed at him from a Paritet Magister. Something about wrapping things up and getting his promotion. A centaur approaches the two and speaks to the woman. Left overhears the conversation between Shiela Lash and Lucidus and infers that they were trying to stop a murder. And they seem to have failed. Atani checks the other buildings, finding the shed locked. She starts a lap around the perimeter, searching for clues. Left and Corvis investigate the barn. They notice the heat stones set into the floor, but don't find anything else. The woman and boy's bodies are checked. Their eyes are completely black and burned, with black-burned claw marks coming down to their forehead from the top of their scalp. Corvis lifts the boy's corpse and carries it out back to bury. Malik chats with Shiela Lash, trying to play along, but she catches on that maybe he's not on board anymore. She runs to the cellar and attacks Lucidus—who went down to investigate. Malik calls for her to stop. Atani and Left come running in from their outside investigations, while Corvis drops off the corpse of the boy out back and also comes to the basement. Combat with Shiela Lash ensues, with the party trying to restrain and stop her in the unusually cold basement. As they bind her, a shadowy menace attacks from the darkness. After some effort, they defeat it. Shiela Lash continues to laugh, on the brink of insanity. Talking about gaining power and proving to those at Paritet that there was more power to be gained—from the rifts. Atani locates the source of the cold—a rift. She touches it and is sucked in. While she experiences immense cold and darkness, the rift begins to close. The others manage to stabilize Lucidus and Malik begins writing a note admitted their crimes. The dream fades.
