The governor of Imperial Albia, who made an unsuccessful attempt to usurp the throne of the Empire of Tarif, indirectly caused the founding of Letha along with the final loss of Imperial power on Albia and the Armorican Peninsula

Personal history

Magnus Maximus was the Imperial commander of Imperial Albia (now the Kingdom of Logres ) at the Tearing of the Great Veil. Facing a Sidhe onslaught and the chaotic magik of Faerie remaking Bedouar, Albia found itself ignored by the crumbling Empire, its resources stretched thin and its interest on other portions of its vast domain. Furstrated, the legions of Albia appointed popular general Magnus Maximus as Emperor of the West. Together with his Albied ally, Conan Meriadoc, he pulled his forces out of the island colony and sailed southwards. With the military and leadership suddenly gone, Fae and mortal raiders attacked, looting and pillaging settlements along the coast and rivers.
Landing in Armorica, Conan Meriadoc seized control of the Remusan capital, killing the governor and securing the area for Maximus. With his northwest flank now secure, the usurper marched southwards towards Liyon , a major city in the South, where his rival, Emperor Gratian waited. The Western army destroyed Gratian's forces, a combination of numbers, shrewd tactics and carefully orchestrated assassinations overwhelming the better equipped army.
The remaining Imperial forces hastily convened a diplomatic mission, granting Maximus the Western Empire in exchange for leaving Gratian's brother, Valentian II as emperor in Remus. The agreement lasted 5 years before Maximus, sensing weakness, marched again on the capital. The leader of the Eastern army reacted quickly, cutting off the invasion in the mountains and destroying Maximus's army. The usurper was captured and put to death, his surviving supporters fleeing north to join Conan Meriadoc.

Morality & Philosophy

Magnus Maximus was an early follower of the Southern Church and violently enforced his beliefs, purging both Druidic and Pagan holy sites, relics and followers. He brutally hunted down the Fae and magik users in his domain, as well as "heretical" gnostic factions within his own religion.
