The Feast of Dawn is a minor celebration of Briganitia Aurora, the goddess of the dawn.  

Agricultural Traditions

 
  • Leading up to the celebration's peak, it was bad luck to plant wheat, spin yard or wash sheets.
  • Cabbages, Onions and Pumpkins are sown in the lead-up to the festival.
  • Seaside communities take the week to collect barnacles along the shoreline.
  • Tan-Mor harvested during Dawnfeast is used to treat epilepsy
  • Breaking Day
  • A communal festival, wherein the pots and plates damaged during the year are destroyed.
  • The Pardon Wind
  • Popular tradition holds that the wind that blows during The Pardons on the first day of the Feast of Dawn will be the dominant wind for the year.
  • Components and tools

    Boxwood

  • Boxwood is placed on bee skeps to bless them
  • Sprigs of Boxwood are placed on graves
  • Boxwood is planted at the end of furrows of uncultivated land.
  • Eggs

  • Eggs laid during Dawnfeast bring good luck and are kept as talismans.
  • These are dyed red with onion skins.
  • Other Traditions

  • A sardine is grilled and hung from the rafters as protection against flies.
  • The power of the Garwaf becomes weaker during Dawnfeast.
