Enquet Organization in Alvarica | World Anvil

Enquet

Enquet is a northern Alvarician nation. From its capital of Charité, the King of Enquet rules over what he proclaims to be the most peaceful and fair of the nations of Alvarica. The reality is slightly muddier.

Society

Enquetian society is extremely conservative, enforced by the will of the government and the fire and brimstone sermons of the Holy Temple of Shkew. It has not always been successful and disquiet erupts at times, but the overall mission of the Bishops of the Apocalypse has proven successful.   Enquet refuses to use Clockworks, decrying them unholy violations, and so has retained a large working class, but it has welcomed other technological advances and in some areas advanced beyond Ma'trine. The nation makes use of steam technology to substitute for uses of magic abroad. The economy is entirely state owned, all businesses working to meet the ends of the government. The stranglehold the government has on all levels of life - from work to religion - has given them surprising ability to shape the minds of their citizens.   The destruction of almost all infrastructure in the eruption left Enquet relatively poor, forcing a rebuilding of most of the nation, and planned communities are almost ubiquitous. Citizens live in communal organisations of from five to a hundred families, overseen by a government selected Patriarch or Matriarch; these communities are called Ivitas. Ivitas are rewarded for reaching self-sufficiency goals with small luxuries such as art, sweets or trips, and Ivitas members are assigned a collective workplace, which may vary from agricultural to technology manufacturing.   Quintessence is almost unknown in Enquet. The government disallows children to be taught to use magic, and allows only consenting adults to chose to use Quintessence. It is rarely used outside of domestic situations.

Culture

Fashion

Men's and women's dress in Enquet are both simple and conservative. Men are required to wear black and women white. Men traditionally wear simple fabric pants with a fabric shirt that folds over the torso and is hooked with simple metal hooks. Sleeves are wrist length and pants floor length; to show any part of the male arm or leg that has hair is considered indecent.

Women wear simple floor length dresses, often hooded, with slit sleeves and tied with a leather belt. Both men's or women's clothes may be complimented with robes or shawls in winter. Ornamentation with simple metal jewellery is permissible but gem stones are seen as excessive luxury.

Architecture

Enquet architecture
Architecture is one facet of Enquetian life where colour and vibrancy are not only allowed, but encouraged. It is said to be a form of worship to have a colourful home, which will welcome the God within. Ma'trinian influence is obvious in Enquetian architecture, but the people of Enquet have simplified its ornamentation and complimented it with many bright colours.

Structure

Enquet is an absolute theoretical monarch. State and religion are scarcely separated. It is headed by the King of Enquet, head of the Shkew religion, and the Assemblance of Spirit serves as the national legislative body - formed of the high clergy of Shkew.

History

The nation was founded when the Shkew State, built by disciples of religious leader Prophet Imabab, was destroyed in the Helthon Eruption. The Bishops of the Apocalypse pulled together the remains of Shkew society to found Enquet, building the city of Charité as a refugee for those homeless in the wake of the destruction. They crowned one of their number as King, and began the job of shaping a highly religious nation that fit their morals and ideals.
