Elementals

Elementals are incarnations of the elements that make up the universe: air, earth, fire, and water. Most Elementals start off as nothing but clusters of elemental energy. Should enough elemental energy congregate together, it becomes animated and an Elemental is "born". This process is called Crystallisation. The resulting Elemental is but a little more than animated energy. Its dull intellect causes it to rely on instincts. A wild Elemental has no desire except to course through the element of its native plane. Like beasts of the Material Plane, these Elementals have no society or culture, and little sense of being.   Certain spells and magic items can conjure an Elemental, summoning it from the Inner Planes to the Material Plane. Elementals instinctively resent being pulled from their native planes and bound into service. A creature that summons an Elemental must assert force of will to control it. Powerful magic can bind an Elemental into a material template that defines a specific use and function. For example, Golems are Elementals bound to physical forms.

Air Elemental

An Air Elemental is a funnelling cloud of whirling air with a vague semblance of a face. Although it likes to race across the ground, picking up dust and debris as it goes, it can also fly and attack from above. An air elemental can turn itself into a screaming cyclone, creating a whirlwind that batters creatures even as it flings them away.

Earth Elemental

An Earth Elemental plods forward like a walking hill, club-like arms of jagged stone swinging at its sides. Its head and body consist of dirt and stone, occasionally set with chunks of metal, gems, and bright minerals. Earth Elementals glide through rock and earth as though they were liquid. Earthbound creatures have much to fear from an Earth Elemental since the elemental can pinpoint the precise location of any foe that stands on solid ground in its vicinity.

Fire Elemental

A faint humanoid shape threads through the core of this wild, moving flame. A Fire Elemental is a force of capricious devastation. Wherever it moves, it sets. its surroundings ablaze, turning the world to ash, smoke, and cinders. Water can halt its destructive progress, causing the fire elemental to shrink back, hissing and smoking in pain and rage.

Water Elemental

A Water Elemental is a cresting wave that rolls across the ground, becoming nearly invisible at it courses through a larger body of water. It engulfs creatures that stand against it, filling their mouths and lungs as easily as it smothers flame.

Ash Elemental

An ash elemental is a swirling tornado-like creature of sooty wind and burnt embers. The sound of crackling fire echoes around it, and it moves with chaotic motions as it flies around its home plane. A strong stench of burning material fills the air around the ash elemental, which it can use against opponents as poisonous vapors – and worse.

Ice Elemental

An ice elemental is a vaguely humanoid entity standing over ten feet tall with body and limbs carved from a single block of semi-transparent ice. The air around an ice elemental plummets in temperature, so much so that it can damage opponents that get too near or attempt to strike it while standing too close. They are slow movers on broad ice-chiseled legs but they are unimpeded by the natural hazards of their elemental domain. They have been known to burrow through snow to catch invaders by surprise.

Magma Elemental

A magma elemental is a creature of constant change. Its rocky body is blackened from the heat, and seams between its body plates reveal dull red ribbons of lava just beneath the surface, like veins on a living being. They move surprisingly quick on their feet and they are adept at swimming through the lava of their home plane. A magma elemental’s fists are nearly as powerful as an earth elemental, and it can hurl great chunks of its flaming body at opponents that stay out of slamming range.

Mud Elemental

A Mud Elemental is a mound of black and brown muck, rolling and reforming over itself constantly as it moves about. It grows arms and legs out of its bulk as necessary, and its favourite tactic is to lay hidden in a pool of slime for an invader to come close. It surprises opponents by enveloping them in its oozy bulk and strangling them to death, or spitting globs of pure acid at targets too far away to engulf bodily.

Elemental Spirits

Elemental Spirits are Elementals who have been given a higher sense of existence. An Elemental Spirit can be created by two methods: Firstly, an Elemental God might have been worshipped greatly, their elemental power might then overflow into their realm, causing a few stray Elementals to undergo Re-Crystallisation, the process where an Elemental becomes an Elemental Spirit. The second method is when an Elemental Gods has a task that needs completion in the material plane. They will conjure up Elementals and purposely cause them to undergo Re-Crystallisation and entrust said task to them.

During Re-Crystallisation, Elementals gain a surge of sentience and intellect. However, they still have memories of their lives until then. Many Elemental Spirits despise how they lived their lives before their Re-Crystallisation. Hence, most of them tend to distance themselves from their past forms as much as possible. For example, An Elemental Spirit who was once a hulking monstrosity would choose a new form that is dwarfed. After a new form is decided, the Elemental is "crystalised" into its new form while also losing much of its ability to change shape and size.   Elemental Spirits whom have destroyed a town or two during their earlier years might head back to the town in order to help rebuild it.

Divine Vessels

As Elemental Spirits are formed by the power of their various Gods, they undoubtedly share a connection with them. Most of the Gods tend not to notice those Elemental Spirits who have been formed spontaneously, hence these Spirits are free to pursue their lives freely as they wish. Elemental Spirits who have been formed purposely, however, are monitored by their gods. Due to this connection with the gods, Elemental Spirits automatically come under any prejudices that people may have against their god.
Elemental Spirits whom are unnotice by their God cannot advance their Elemental Spirit level. Moreover, at level 5 of Elemental Spirit, the Spirit is offered a chance to become a priest of their god, bypassing the requirement of being a cleric.
