Throughout history there has been a lot of theories and myths surrounding the eight moons. Aporyphal church sources claims that these moons were the guard post of the eight angels of light before the Upheaval, but nowadays the eight moons are more asociated with wicked witchraft asnd ill omens.
Arcanist in the Age of Taoes associated the orbs with the eight schools of magic, noting influxes based on their positions in the sky. In the early 11th century there were a academic dispute between Ambrose the Wise and Rodric the Quester. The former claimed that the Octovarians were remnants of a larger moon, twin to Elanthe that broke apart during the Fall of the Tavrian Empire, while the later claiming to have found references to the moons in old tavarian texts and that the ethelien elves visited then in their songships.
