Raul
Raul the first (25 before the union - 30 after the union) was the progenitor of the old Brillian kingdom. A mythic figure in the Brillian Empire, He has been the first person to unite the Estekomenda mountains mountain tribes, which he then led to conquer the lands west of the mountains, crowning himself as the first king of Brillia.
Raul then proceeded to carefully adjust local traditions to his favor, claiming himself to be chosen by their goddess of light, in one of the first steps towards the creation of the Brillian religion.
In addition, he has married the daughter of one of the local leaders in order to further cement his rule.
While they were amicable at first, their marriage was overshadowed by his love to his mistress, Carmen. They had three sons and a daughter, but their relationship has quickly devolved into a tense and uneasy one.
He was poisoned at the age of 55 by religious fanatics for his relationship with Carmen, who was known to be a Void Sorceress.

Personal history
Born to a chieftain of one of the Estekomenda mountains' tribes, Raul was brought up to succeed his father as his first born.
Even as a child he was fast and strong for his age. He has shown a talent for fighting, but also for leadership and strategy.
When he returned from his mountain trial, he was challenged by his younger brother, who thought that he would be weak enough for him to beat.
Using his makeshift axe, he defeated and beheaded his brother.

Raul the first managed to unite the tribes of the Estekomenda mountains, and started conquering the lands to the west of them.

Raul was an intelligent man, even if he didn't always flaunt it. He was especially good at reading people and situations and reacting accordingly.

In Raul's mind, mercy was mostly unnecessary, and so he didn't tend to show mercy to his enemies if he didn't find it useful.

Despite his cunning and stoic nature, Raul did have a blind spot: when he really liked someone, he could ignore the dangers associated with them. That would ultimately lead to his demise, when he was assassinated for his relationship with the Void witch, Carmen.
His lack of mercy and compassion would also sometimes be viewed as viciousness.
