Valhalla
Valhalla is the hall of Odin in Asgard. There, Odin collects the einherjar - half of the honored dead warriors of Midgard. These warriors practice their craft until the battle of Ragnarök. The rest of the time, they spend celebrating their sport.
The Valkyries collect the slain from the battlefield and take them to Asgard. There, Freya gets first choice of the dead, and the remaining half go to Odin. While many have tried to twist this into a greater honor using metaphorical battle, this does not follow the tenets of the Norse and their gods.
The einherjar are meant to fight an actual battle, so a "battle" with cancer or against abuse, while respected, does not a figher make. This isn't about the lack of the warrior spirit; it is about actual fighting skills.
Additionally, the einherjar are given this honor as a consolation for having died on the battlefield. The better death and afterlife for the Norse would be to die surrounded by beloved family and friends, spending eternity with your friends and family living a quiet life.
