Melanor

Melanor is the main port town in Aberronia. It is known for the most respected arcane academy in whole Aberronia, Golden Tower of Melanor, but laymen know it for other reasons than those of arcane interest: Commerce. If you want something, you can definitely get it from the street stalls and shops of this busy imperial city. Fruits from Malvere, traditionally woven garments and incense from The Old Sea, books and other luxury items from the human kingdoms of Madovar... they all fit nicely in the sea of merchandise. From the cities of Aberronia, Melanor is probably the most open-minded and welcoming, due to the sheer amount of different folk visiting via maritime commerce routes. Melanor is probably the biggest port city in the whole world, and it leads the maritime trade if counted in amount of cargo transported. The port is deep enough for the heavy cargo ships to reach, which helps the loading and unloading the cargo immensely.

Government

The City follows the Aberronian laws, but it has some certain privileges when it comes on how to follow them. In Melanor they are much more lax with who is coming and going (i.e. more tolerant towards other races and people from different countries), the atmosphere is more free and the city guards are not generally as strict as, let's say, in the capital city Artacheros where the city hierarchy is also more rigid. Of course the city guards keeps watch, but they have more eye on cultural differences and are not immediately as 'trigger happy' as the guards of the crown usually are.

Industry & Trade

The population is an odd mix of merchants, arcane enthusiasts, sailors, and craftsmen. Despite the port of Melanor being the greatest and biggest port in the whole Aberronia, it lacks most of certain bureaucracy the other bigger cities have. It works well with the old system that was put in the place by the High Elves, esp. Sun elves who found the city and that might be the very reason why Melanor is thriving.

The port area is the heart of the city and the Portside market the main valve of the aforementioned heart, The Golden Tower of Melanor is another main hub for people, especially those seeking for arcane knowledge.
