"The Mischief of the Laughing Twins"

A folktale-ish explanation of how suddenly there was a second moon in the sky.

Summary

The story itself is a very short and simple. The Laughing twins, as good yet mischievous entities, decided to steal the moon one night, mainly as a joke. But when they stole it, they started to argue which one's turn it was to hold it, and then it accidentally fell down and cracked. They put the moon back together, but missed one piece, of which turned into a second, much smaller moon.

Historical Basis

The Turbulence itself had caused several unnatural changes in the world and even in the universe. Some spells didn't work like they used to and areas, where previously were lush grasslands or bountiful orchards, suddenly stopped prospering and were abandoned. It is thought that the second moon was first time noticed back then. How and why it suddenly appeared, is still a mystery, as is almost everything regarding the magical phenomena. It is plausible that normal folk explained the odd situation as well as they could, drawing inspiration from old traditional stories.

Variations & Mutation

There are several other tales which explain the sudden appearance of the new stellar body, and many resemble each other when it comes to the key elements of the story. It is unclear though if they are related or not.

Few songs and tales are often told among the humans of Madovar. They are especially popular as bedtime stories.
