Ley Potions
Ley potions are specifically designed to treat Null magic poisoning and other Null magic-induced afflictions. They have certain properties that make them uniquely suited to treating these conditions.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Ley potions are a mix of several different herbs known for purging Null magic out of one's system. They may additionally contain herbs that restore one's Anima magic.
They are consumed via ingestion most of the time, though they may be administered via a feeding tube if the patient is unable to swallow. Once ingested, the ley potion will get to work purging the patient's system of any Null magic, including any wendigoes possessing them, and will begin to restore their Anima. This is not often a pleasant process; purging happens via speeding up the patient's excretory system, which means that Null magic is expelled via frequent urination and defecation. Many patients get diarrhea when on a ley potion regimen, not least due to the senna that is often present in these potions.
Manufacturing process
The process of making a ley potion is much like that of making any other potion; the herbs are ground into a fine powder, then dissolved in water. The water is boiled to make the herbs infuse, and then left to cool to room temperature. Refrigeration is not necessary for this kind of elixir.
Hospitals all across Altairus have access to the materials needed for ley potions, since recognizing and treating Null magic afflictions is considered paramount.
The contents of a ley potion vary from one hospital to another. Typically, herbs known to purge Null magic from the body and those used to restore Anima magic are used.
A list of herbs commonly used:
- Common Silverleaf (purges Null magic from the body)
- Aruberry (anti-inflammatory, stimulates appetite)
- Peppermint (relaxing, cools the system)
- Chamomile (relaxing, can encourage Anima restoration)
- Senna (laxative)
- Koka Bark (stimulating, flushes out liver and kidneys)
Ley potions are typically fashioned in apothecary environments. To make one, one will need a mortar and pestle to grind the herbs into a fine powder, as well as a glass container to house the potion and water to act as a solvent.
