Inferno Cat

Inferno cats may look like fierce lions, but they are actually more related to the common house cat. These demonic-looking felines are some of the most effective predators of the Fire element in all of Altairus.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Inferno cats resemble lions to some extent. They have sleek but muscular bodies with long tails ending in a spade, much like that of many dragons. They have colorful, fiery manes, and their faces are skulls bearing horns and many sharp fangs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Inferno cats give live birth to a litter of 3-6 kittens at a time, much like house cats.

Growth Rate & Stages

Juvenile inferno cats are referred to as "inferno kittens." They are about the size of a regular house cat. An inferno cat is fully grown in two years, where they are typically the size of your average lioness.

Ecology and Habitats

Inferno cats inhabit tropical rainforests and underground lava caves, areas associated with the Fire element. They are especially common in the Jungle of the Wise Serpent, where the legendary Fire Fragment Yuuki is rumored to have landed.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Inferno cats are obligate carnivores. While they can outrun almost any prey they come across, they are ambush predators, much like most cat species.

Behaviour

Inferno cats typically stay away from faeries, but if they are cornered or there are young nearby, they will fight back without mercy. If one encounters an inferno cat, it is best to try to subdue them with a water spell. As cats and Fire elementals, inferno cats hate getting wet and will flee when confronted with the possibility. When they run, they leave a trail of fire behind them.

As they are of the Felis genus, inferno cats cannot roar. Instead, they communicate through snake-like hisses.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Inferno cats are solitary hunters, only taking interest in each other during mating season. Female inferno cats raise young on their own.

Domestication

Some faeries of the Fire element, particularly in parts of Cirkea and Domeria, have domesticated inferno cats for riding, as their incredible speed and endurance are ideal for long-distance travel.

Facial characteristics

An inferno cat's face is a feline skull with horns and fierce fangs. These start out small and grow throughout the inferno cat's lifetime. Inferno cats have slit pupils.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Inferno cats are present in the jungles and volcanic areas of East Altairus. They do not live on Pandora.

Average Intelligence

While inferno cats are non-sapient, they do possess some self-awareness. Certain faeries have been able to reliably communicate with them through establishing a magical mind-link between them.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Being cats, inferno cats have a superior sense of hearing, as well as excellent night vision.
