Aurutopia

Aurutopia is located in the northern region of Heraklea. Known as the City of Gold, it inspired many legends both in Altairus and on Earth.

Demographics

Aurutopia is chiefly populated by Kitsune. In fact, it is considered the capital of all Kitsune culture.

Government

Despite modernization, Aurutopia is governed by an incredibly antiquated system of government. The city is controlled by a small collection of noble families, which periodically fight with each other for sovereignty.

This may soon change. In the modern era, multiple young heirs have renounced their inheritance to become Ex-Patricians. This, along with the damage from The War of the Wendigoes, is causing massive upheaval within the city. The current system is on the verge of collapsing, and numerous opportunists are eagerly awaiting that day to seize the throne. Others hope the collapse will give way to a fairer, more democratic form of government. The outcome is still yet to be seen.

The Aurum Curse

Posted all over Aurutopia are signs warning visitors not to take any of the gold or gemstones that line the streets, lest they fall victim to the Aurum Curse. While it is often scoffed at, the curse is very much real and can ruin a thief's life.

The curse befalls anyone who takes any of Aurutopia's treasures without permission. Slowly, over a course of years, the thief will slowly be driven mad. It starts with strokes of bad luck: a bad trade here, a plague of locusts there. Over time, the thief's life will unravel completely, driving them mad. The only way to break the curse is to return the stolen goods to Aurutopia.

Industry & Trade

Unsurprisingly, Aurutopia's economy relies heavily on the trade of various metals and gemstones. These range from precious metals to more practical ones such as iron and blackmetal. It is also one of the few cities that Adamantite traders frequently make visits to.

Assets

Aurutopia is a very wealthy city, with gold literally lining the streets. However, most of this wealth is concentrated among the upper classes. The lower classes tend to live a lot like the peasants in Wheat Country not far away.

Architecture

As mentioned above, Aurutopia's streets are lined with gold, but that's not all. Almost every surface in the city is plated in some kind of metal, whether that be gold, silver, platinum, or even blackmetal. Golden/silver bonsai trees with gemstone leaves are a common sight in the city's numerous pavilions.
