Altairian Tea Tree

When Earth and Altairus still interacted with each other, many plants from Earth migrated to Altairus and vice versa. One of the plants that arrived in Altairus in this way was the tea bush. While Altairian tea plants are very similar to those on Earth, they possess a certain magic that distinguishes them from their predecessors.

This article is about the plant from which Altairian tea comes from. For a more in-depth article on different tea varieties in Altairus, click here.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Altairian tea trees are much bigger than Earthen tea bushes. So much so that they resemble low-growing trees moreso than bushes. The leaves grow on branches that extend from a short, squat trunk covered in thick, smooth bark.

Ecology and Habitats

Camellia Sinensis var. Altairus is much more resistant to cold temperatures than either Camellia Sinensis var. Sinensis or Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica. However, it can survive in many different environments, and it is especially known for its hardy nature.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Like on Earth, tea is the most commonly consumed beverage in Altairus besides water. Consistently throughout history, one of the most profitable products for Gremlins and other nomadic traders in Altairus to sell is tea. It is cultivated and processed in similar ways to how it is done on Earth, and tea that travels over long distances experiences a slow fermentation process that develops its flavor (much like sheng puer).

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Altairian tea trees are cultivated in the Cha Plains, located in the northern regions of the continents of Cirkea and Domeria. They are also extensively cultivated near Frozen Summit, located within the Howling Mountain Range.

Altairian tea production is more or less restricted to the Cirkea-Tamora-Domeria megacontinent. Depending on where it is grown, it carries with it different magical properties.
