Adventures in Altairus
Adventures in Altairus, as it is known, is a particularly aggressive and incorrigible Altairus portal that manifests on Earth in a very specific way. Needing only a screen to work its magic, it has baffled Earth-dwellers and Altairians alike with its unpredictable ways.
Manifestation
Adventures in Altairus gets its name from the very specific way it manifests. It starts when a mysterious children's cartoon show appears on screen. The title, "Adventures in Altairus" flashes across the screen, accompanied by triumphant music and visions of the many lands of Altairus.
The screen will fade to black before opening up again to an introduction scene. An unknown narrator introduces the world of Altairus to the viewer, showing them various scenes in Altairian history. The art style these are depicted in tends to vary; some viewers have described an art style much like a medieval manuscript, others recall a more impressionistic art style.
After some time, the narrator tells the viewer about some conflict that is going on in Altairus at the moment it manifested. It then asks the viewer, "We need you! Will you come and help us?"
The picture on the screen will appear to freeze for about 2-3 seconds before the portal opens. A bright white light will fill the screen, and the portal will begin to draw in the viewer towards it. If the viewer resists, the portal will pull harder and harder until they are eventually sucked in. Once it has claimed its quarry, it closes, turning the device it attached to off and oftentimes leaving the room it was in a complete mess.
Localization
This rogue portal can manifest anywhere on Earth that has any kind of electronic screen, whether that be a television screen, a computer screen, or even a smartphone screen. The electronic device it attaches itself to doesn't have to be turned on or even connected to power. Many people have tried to stop from being sucked in by trying to cut the power, only to find that the show will not turn off no matter what they do.
Other humans who witnessed a portal kidnapping write letters to television statements they believe to be hosting Adventures in Altairus asking them to do something about the situation. Unfortunately, due to the fact that the portal isn't connected to any TV stations, and because the stories are just so ridiculous, there is not much that can be done. An excerpt from a response to a letter about one of these kidnappings is shown below (names and identifying information expunged):
Dear Mrs. ██████:
We thank you for contacting ██████████████████ about this issue. Unfortunately, we have not been able to find sufficient evidence to your claims. We have never produced a program by the name Adventures in Altairus, and from what you have described, we suspect that this might be some kind of joke. ██████████████████ is committed to making family-friendly entertainment, and under no circumstance would we ever make a show that physically sucks the viewer into the television. We will continue to look into this issue, but if you could send us screenshots of the show, we will be better able to help.
Adventures in Altairus seemingly disappeared when the Earth portals were closed following The War of the Wendigoes. The pattern by which it selects its victims is not known; it seems to strike randomly and indiscriminately. But perhaps it's only when Altairus is in true need that the portal opens.
"Welcome! I see you've arrived at our wonderful world! Beyond this misty curtain, and past the sky-high mountaintops, a new day in Altairus is beginning."
