Caspien Sea

An Adairian male known for his stealing, Caspien Sea, also known as Cas, was once a prisoner living at Kaskeya Prison. Cas’ legacy is that he helped plan the 1190 Riot. Not only did he plan it, he also constructed the rules and laws for Key’s Central after the riot. He would go on to spend the next fifty seven years in prison, dying at eighty one years old.

Backstory

Growing up poor in Las Islos, Cas never had the means necessary to survive. Being the eldest sibling within the family made it that most the responsibility fell on him for keeping his younger siblings alive. When he was 7 his father died, and not long after his mother followed. After struggling to keep what was left of his now broken family alive, he thought of other lengths he must go to in order to keep them afloat. He began stealing food and using them to feed his younger siblings. A few years later, he decided he was tired of struggling, and started a major uproar within the town’s lower class citizens. A few weeks later, it was found out that he had been stealing and was hauled off to prison.

Sentenced to Kaskeya

For his crimes in robbery and treason, he was sentenced to thirty years in prison. The sentencing was done in the city center of Las Islos and he was shipped off to the First Outer Harbor. From there he was transported to the Second Outer Harbor. He waited a total of four weeks to be shipped to the island of Kaskeya. Once he arrived, he kept a very low profile with ears always listening. He saw patterns of arguments and guard’s treatment of inmates. Tired of the system, he befriended his cellmate and planned a riot.

The Kaskeya 1190 Riot

The Kaskeya 1190 Riot started early in the morning during a guard shift change. It was strategically planned by Cas and his cellmate. The planning of the riot took over the course of the year and involved the recruitment of other inmates. It was a collaborative group effort. On the day of, every inmate had to be ready with their makeshift keys, unlock the gates, and attack the guards. The plan was to run out all the guards and not allow them back in. The guards were shocked by this attack and were completely unprepared. They had to retreat and leave the prison in the hands of the inmates.

After the Riot

The riot started off bloody and ended bloody. A total of 31 guards and 3 inmates were killed during the attack. The prison was completely destroyed. It was all reconstructed. The whole ground floor was under full reign of the inmates. Only the perimeter and second floors were accessible by guards. Cas helped rebuild the prison and named the ground floor, Key’s Central. He also helped establish the new laws and dynamics of Key’s Central. This place would be only accessible by one entrance and exit. A long tunnel with a gate on each side. Where the inner gate is controlled and locked by Key’s Central and the outer gate is controlled and locked by the guards. There is a mutual understanding that guards stay on the outskirts and stay out of prison business. The prisoners on the inside are to not attack the guards and remain inside the prison unless instructed to come out. Cas created this mutual understanding, he was celebrated as a revolutionist. Until he died, the next fifty years were shaped by Cas’ ruling and his ideologies. The Kaskeya prison became a self-sufficient prison. Inmates aren’t locked up, they are rehabilitated and given a skill and purpose within the community. That didn’t stop long after Cas’ death. His legacy carried on until the prison closed down in the fifteenth century.
