Kakas Mountain Range

A long range of jagged peaks and trecherous cliffs. The mountains are so high that they air is bitter cold, making it a particularly dangerous place to get lost. The range extends along the northern border of Hiland and arches down the western border to the seacoast. The White Cliffs make the mountains too dangerous to cross, and the only way to access the higher levels is through the Three Step Pass.

These barren wastes are the home of the Seltiks. The bitter cold and sheer drops protect the Seltik people from invasion and have allowed them to live in seclusion for hundreds of years. Very few animals are capable of surving the harsh conditions of the Kakas mountains, but the Great Ironfeather has flourished here and can often be seen soaring through the snowy skies. The Cordric has also adapted to live in the mountain peaks, claiming the highest precipices as its territory and hunting the many Borbeasts running wild through the wooded foothills.

Geography

The Twin Peaks

Kakas in the Seltik dialect means "twin" and refers to the two highest mountain peaks for which the range was named. The taller of the two, Mount Majora, and its sister mountain Minora, form the twin peaks of the Kakas Mountains and are the tallest mountains in Hiland, followed closely by Polymoss Mountain in Zorra's Domain to the south and Eiribor in the east. In Seltik folklore, the twin peaks used to be a single mountain named Kadaman. During the First Calamity as the Princess and the ancient peoples defeated Scourge, he was blasted against Mount Kadaman. He struck the mountain with such force and clawed so viciously that it tore the mountain in two, creating the twin peaks.

White Cliffs

The White Cliffs are a large glacier situated between the arms of the twin peaks. The glacier itself is not large but the cliffs extend far along the base of the mountain range, creating a natural border between the peaks and foothills. The Seltiks use these cliffs and the fierce winds they create to train in aireal combat on their Ironfeather mounts.

Three Step Pass

The only path through the Kakas Mountain Range is a narrow split through the White Cliffs called Three Step Pass. The pass is broken into three sections with each path leading to a higher level. Each plateau ascends higher up the mountain and looks like the steps of a giant stair.
