Great Ironfeather

A giant eagle that lives in the Kakas Mountains. The Seltik people tame these birds as transportation and use their feathers for clothing.

The Great Ironfeather is named for its extremely strong feathers. The Seltik craft the feathers into armor that is stronger than steel and nearly impenetrable yet as light and mobile as silk. The feathers also protect the wearer from extreme cold, allowing the Seltik to live in the mountain peaks and fly at high altitudes.

The Great Ironfeathers are stubborn and prideful like the Seltiks that ride them, but are also extremely loyal and diligent once their trust has been earned. Once a Seltik tames an ironfeather, they are bonded for life and the bird will fight to the death to protect its rider. The bird will only allow its tamer to ride it.

At nearly 1.5 meters tall, 2 meters long and a 3 meter wingspan, ironfeathers are large enough to carry three grown men. They are suprisingly light for their size, weighing only about 150 kilograms. If their size was not enough, their gray feathers and black tipped wings and tail make them easy to distinguish on a clear day.

Ironfeathers have exceptional eyesight, capable of spotting a squirrel scurrying across the snowcovered plains from over a mile away on a clear day.

The Great Ironfeather thrives in the cold northern peaks of the Kakas Mountain Range. It hunts the many borbeasts found roaming in the forest below but returns to its nest in the ice crevacess each night where it is protected from the wind and snow and from the only creature more powerful than itself, the @cor.
