Demon Fever Condition in Aloth | World Anvil

Demon Fever

Transmission & Vectors

Demon fever is spread through the air but does not have a long lifespan once exposed to oxygen only being able to live for a few minutes before dispersing. Once it has infected a creature it can then jump from person to person through blood.

Symptoms

Demon fever starts by giving its host red spots all over their body and then slowly increasing their body temperature into a terrible fever which often kills normal people before any later symptoms. After a varying amount of time from an hour to days, the person's blood will start to boil and their flesh will start to detonate from the red spots. The detonations will deal massive damage and can and will easily kill most creatures within hours. The detonations come in waves with about an hour between each occurrence.

Treatment

Because of demon fever's unstable nature and varying incubation time it can be hard or even impossible to cure without strong potions or magic. There is one cure that works on most humanoid creatures except those of devilish blood. Charcoal can flush the disease from the host's body within hours, but the procedure is very painful and might lead to internal burns.

Affected Groups

Most living creatures and affected by the disease, but devils and those who share devil blood seem to be extra weak and susceptible to the disease. Devils can't resist the disease as well as other creatures and even with their resistances to fire the fever and fiery detonations kill them with ease.

Hosts & Carriers

Demons have been known to infect themselves with the disease as they are immune to it, but will act as carriers for some days before the disease leaves their system. It can spread through their blood to other creatures so it is used by frontline demons who are expected to either die or have their blood shed.

Prevention

A person has a chance to resist the disease, but there are little to none prevention to the disease except not breathing it in.
