Lady Maria
Maria Oleander always had an interest in how things functioned. More specifically, how people functioned. It started with the passing of her grandmother. She was orphaned at a young age and was put into her grandparents’ care at The Sanctuary of Eternal Night. Tragic that a child would experience such a harrowing loss due to old age so soon. From this came a fixation of the idea of mortality and a desire to render it obsolete.
Soon after, she began studying anthropological nature. As she grew old, she also grew a better understanding of humanoid anatomy. This knowledge granted her the origins to her alchemical career. Maria started off infusing blood into her own, beginning with just simple things… Rats, goats, other farm animals.
While she saw little progress, this did not halt her aspirations. She realized she needed to experiment with bigger and more dangerous specimen. Maria continued the blood infusions at such an advanced rate, she grew a following of dedicated acolytes who aided her in research. However, she kept the infusions on herself. She couldn’t trust others to be a good lab rat.
During this period of exponential experimentation, she drew blood from anything she could find: giants, tigers, arachne. Finally, infusing herself with the DNA of a dire wolf, she didn’t gain immortality, but she discovered something else, Lycanthropy.
Gaining the ability of unleashing the beast inside her, Maria became more powerful, her following became a prominent faction within The Sanctuary of Eternal Night known as The School of the Lycan. Still, she still had no improvements toward immortality.
Realizing this, she turned to the Bounty Hunters to widen her variety of acquirable specimen. This new pallet of genetics only made her greedier for further experimentation. Though she joined the group fairly late in its needed lifespan, so while she hunted a multitude of creatures, her main goal was to take that of an ancient crystal dragon. Well, lo and behold that is her final target within the Bounty Hunters.
Having reached this impossible creature, Maria was able to take its blood. While having no effect on lifespan, she gained insight. She knew now where to go, right back where she came from.
Returning to The Sanctuary of Eternal Night, Maria spoke to a coven of vampires who were also knowledgeable of genetics. While she pushed them to reveal their secrets, Maria grew impatient and got bit to join their coven. Soon after, she was given the information needed to gain actual improvements into immortality. However, she wanted more.
Maria began infusing her blood with more than just dangerous animals. She began to take the blood of all kinds of people. She even infused herself with the blood of the lightless, which gave her so much insight her body ceased functioning. Having a body that is withered and frail, Maria’s mind has expanded so exponentially that she has gained powers greater than most, regardless of her physical ineptitude.
She is taken care of by her acolytes within The Sanctuary of Eternal Night. While her body is a husk of her former self, she is still a powerful powerful ally, or more terrifyingly, a powerful foe.
