The Gray Plains

A large plain between Kathur and the desert known as the Sands of Ashshir. The Gray Plains is seen as one of the very few regions of the continent that are relatively safe. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean much given the fact that the entire continent is seen as one of the most dangerous places on Aloran. This expanse of grayish green grass is home to the largest population of Tabaxi west of The Deep Sea.

Geography

The Gray Plains is largely a plain but few parts of it are covered in rolling hills. There is no notable source of fresh water within the Gray Plains. Its residents and the few travellers that dare pass through often rely on rainfall, which does occur regularly, and Waterberries. Despite the dreary name and the grayish green grass that covers most of the area the Gray Plains, the Tabaxi who call it home claim it has the most beautiful sunrises in all of Aloran. Because of its proximity to the Sands of Ashshir it is not unheard of for sandstorms and the monsters of the desert to cross into the Gray Plains for a while.

Fauna & Flora

The Gray Plains is named so because it is largely covered in a grayish green grass that only grows in the area. Some of the other plants that only grow here are Waterberries, Bendbark Trees, Liver Root, Vocalis Root, and Whisper Flowers. Waterberries are fist-sized black fruit that grows on large bushes and are filled with sweet water like liquid. The liquid within Waterberries is used for drinking and cooking. Bendbark Trees (Think slightly skinnier and smaller Baobab trees) are large trees that often grow in clusters of five or six. Despite their appearance, these trees are incredibly malleable and often can be seen bending because of mild wind. Liver Root is believed to be an instant cure for hangovers when brewed into a stew and is a favorite food for many of the fauna that calls the Gray Plains home. Vocalis Root is the main ingredient in a special herbal tea that is used in the recovery and maintenance of one's vocal cords. During the Crystal Age, singers and storytellers alike traveled to the Gray Plains to fix their damaged voice with this tea. Vocalis Root is a blueish purple root and is found quite easily because it grows horizontally on the ground instead of vertically. Whisper Flowers are small semi-transparent flowers that are known for the fact that when wind passes through them they give off a sound that is identical to vague languageless whispers. Some of the predatory creatures that call the Gray Plains home have often used clusters of growing Whisper Flowers to distract travelers
The only recorded animal life within the Gray Plains is rabbits, deer, coyotes and many different kinds of rodents. The odd Gorilla, Elk, Anaconda and other animals from the other regions of Vederan have also been known to wander the Plains. It is unknown what kinds of monsters call the Gray Plains home because there is no safe way to tell which ones actually reside in the Plains and which ones wander into the area from another part of the continent. Gnolls are most often seen within the Gray Plains.
