The Cult of Daggers
The Cult of Daggers are a secretive sect formed following The Assassins' integration into The Order. At the time, the Assassin order were vigilante killers, lead by Gwynfor Bloodsmark, however once the corruption that they saw within the Order had been quelled, they decided their best way to continue to operate was within the ranks of the Order; keeping politicians in check more publicly, and within the confines of the law, whilst also fulfilling the role of Military Intelligence operatives, in order to best protect the people of Vold.
A young, talented assassin disagreed with Bloodsmark's decision. Aeron Egeus decided one day, that the Assassins had simply become a part of the corruption they swore to destroy. He sneered at Bloodsmark's new, pacifistic, and what he deemed, cowardly approach to disciplining the government, and gathered his followers together to institute a coup at the Assassins base of operations in Haistad. As they held many of the officials hostage, Egeus made it his personal duty to prosecute each of them in turn, as he systematically executed them, one by one. After several hours of the coup ongoing, members still loyal to Bloodsmark were able to overpower the mutineers, and cast them out.
Egeus and his band of rogue Assassins headed for Morlund, where they set up base in Mordstad, in an abandoned clocktower, which became known to them as Death's Clocktower. The group, still under the leadership of an ageing Aeron Egeus, are essentially a gang of hitmen, the most dangerous in the world. They perform assassinations on anyone and everyone, from farmhands to kings, and have been responsible for several high profile killings. The Cult's methods are competitive; every bounty is magically sent to every member, as soon as it is authorised, pitting hitmen against one another, often ending in members killing one another.
