The Ring of Alluris Item in Alluria | World Anvil

The Ring of Alluris

Alluris is heralded as the first of the Vampires; if this isn't true, he is at least the first of any renown. Tales state that Alluris drank deep of Necromancy and the powers to stave off death, but the more he sought to extend his life, the higher the price would come, his method imperfect and leading him to suffer strange weaknesses to contacting silver and wood, as well as states of ravenous hunger. During one such deep craving he found he could not be sated by the food he had at hand, and so went to a nearby farming village for more. The local priests of a sun god welcomed him in and provided him food, but still he hungered. His hunger gave way to a primal frenzy, and in that state he devoured the priests, coming to his senses only after finally being sated upon their blood.   The god they worshipped was infuriated by Alluris, cursing him and scouring the remains of his soul away; should his rays ever reach Alluris he would be smote, and the food of the village, garlic, would repel and repulse the man to protect its inhabitants of further harm. Alluris responded in kind, cursing those priests he fed upon, using his Necromantic ways to raise them in his image, and stealing what remained of their souls, infusing it with the power to repel the sun they once worshipped and shield Alluris from their former god. Those priests found any they fed on ended up much like them, inheriting the curse of the sun, and the Ring of Alluris became a greatly sought after relic by their kind, a chance to regain a soul by proxy.   Alluris was believed killed during the First Age when heroes cast him into a pit of ravenous daemons, but during the Second Age the ring returned, held notably by one known as Lord Severin, warring against the renowned Heroes of Felfield before ultimately falling to their blades. Since then it has been believed to have passed between vampiric hands numerous times, but none have made a name for themselves with the ring since, should any possess it.
