Godsgrave

Deep in the cold northern reaches of the Isles of Bastov exists a plateau shrouded in mystery and swirling arcane and divine energies known as the Godsgrave. This place is only accessible by sailing upriver along The Serpentongue River and braving several white water rapids, as the alternative is crossing the jagged and perilous Maw Mountains which encircle the plateau.

History

Legend has it that at the end of the First Age a god from an overseas pantheon came seeking war and riches, and the gods of Bastov posed no match for this outsider. To try and best this threat they set a trap, luring the interloper into the most inhospitable location they could to wear them down, before attacking en masse once they had their foe in place. Still, however, the foe fought back, growing ever stronger with each god they slaughtered. The enemy slammed the defenders into the ground, flattening the mountain they fought upon, creating the plateau where the remanents of the gods came to rest. Thus, the reign of the Bastov Pantheon came to an end, and a new god claimed Bastov's worship for themselves.   When the Third Age began, following the Night of Heaven's Fall, the people of Bastov were stripped of their memories of all to do with their dominating god, and a collapse began in their society. Ironically, more was remembered of the conquered than the conqueror now, and the people of Bastov took it as a sign, sending pilgrimages up to the perilous Godsgrave. The swirling energies and memories of savagry permiated the air and land, and those who survived the journey spoke of the primal essence of the place. Soon shrines were erected, and eventually the people heard a name whispered; Morkruh, the Primal given Form, born from the graves of angry and woeful gods, of desire to live and dominate.
