Aalg Root
An Ancient Magic Source
Aalg Roots are rare and badly named plants because, unlike the name would suggest, Aalg Roots have very few roots and are characterized by their wide leaves that stretch out several feet in length. Aalg Roots are quite rare, and are usually found high up in cold, mountainous regions. Nobody knows where Aalg Roots come from or why they apparently don't have any sort of reproductive system. Some believe that they were created by a great wizard long ago to serve as small sources of magical energy for wandering mages. This is probably the most likely reason for their existence since their juice can be a very potent source of magic.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A single, thick trunk that splits into four or more large leaves, each well over a foot in length. A leaf's main arteries is protected by bark. The plant only has a couple of short roots. A normal Aalg Root only grows up to about a foot tall, and takes in most of its sunlight through its large leaves.
Genetics and Reproduction
Unknown if they even reproduce at all. Every single Aalg Root is extremely old, dating back to the First Era. Some believe that the plants are very resilient and have been created by a mage who enjoyed botany a little too much.
Growth Rate & Stages
Nobody has ever seen a young Aalg Root, so nobody actually knows how they grow.
Ecology and Habitats
Aalg Roots live high up in rocky and cold climates, far from other plants and ever farther from intelligent life forms. These plants are usually very difficult to reach and are very rare.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Aalg Root juice is a potent substance that can be used as a source of magic for training mages. Many who train in the arts of magic have explored far and wide for Aalg Roots and sometimes even set up home near these plants.
