Feixende Schlucht

Aus der feixenden Schlucht hört man von Zeit zu Zeit das Echo von Gelächter. Laut schallt es aus den Tiefen der Schlucht an die Oberfläche. Es gibt wilde Spekulationen darüber, ob die Insel hier aufgerissen ist um ihrer Freude Luft zu machen, oder ob hier eine unbekannte Spezies tief unter der Erde haust. Manche glauben, dass es in der dunklen Tiefe Geister gibt, die ihren Schabernack treiben und jedem, der sich nähert, gruselige Streiche spielen. Besitzt man den Mut und folgt man diesem Gelächter in tiefere Bereiche der Schlucht, dann kann man irgendwann etwas merkwürdiges im Gestein erblicken. Hier befindet sich kein Gold, Silber oder anderweitiges metallisches Erz, wie es sonst üblich wäre. Tief unter der Erdoberfläche findet man Kekse und Cracker, die aussehen, als wären sie im Gestein eingebacken worden. Davon kann man sich hervorragend ernähren, sofern man einen gelegentlichen kleinen Kiesel zwischen den Zähnen nicht scheut. Auch braucht man ein gutes Gebiss, denn die Kekse sind steinhart. Umso tiefer man in die feixende Schlucht vordringt, desto eindringlicher wird das Lachen und desto häufiger findet man Kekse im Gestein. Vermutlich ist so der Begriff Scherzkeks entstanden.

Vielleicht ist es nur der Wind, der durch die Spalten und Schluchten weht, aber vielleicht verbirgt sich hinter dem mysteriösen Gelächter auch ein Geheimnis.

Smirking Canyon

From time to time you hear distant laughter echoing from the smirking canyon. It echoes loudly from the depths of the gorge to the surface. There are wild speculations about the origin of the laughter. Maybe, the island tore itself open in a natural expression of joy or an unknown species is fooling around somewhere underground. Some say that there are ghosts in the dark depths who are playing spooky tricks to anybody getting to close. If you got the guts and follow this laughter into deeper areas of the canyon, you might see something strange within the material of the rock. There is no gold, silver or other metallic ore here as would normally be the case. There are cookies and crackers deep below the surface of the earth that look as if they were baked into the rock. You can feed on this very well if you are not afraid of the occasional small pebble between your teeth. You also need a strong bite, because the cookies are rock hard. The deeper and further you hike down into the smirking canyon, the more pinched and vivid the laugh will become and the more often you will find crackers in the rock. This is probably the reason on how the term wisecracker came about.
Perhaps it is only the wind that blows through the crevasses and cracks, but maybe there is also a secret behind the mysterious laughter.
