Ixelthid
The Ixelthid first frightened explorers at it insectoid anatomy, but they soon realized they were curious creatures and easily trained, as long as the right food was present. The Ixelthid is the working animal of choice by the denizens of the Everstine Islets and the Ingeis Archipelago. The people of these places use Ixelthids to quickly transport goods across the land as well as across the sea due to their ability to glide on the water's surface.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Ixelthid has a long slender body with six legs, and a light but incredibly hard exoskeleton. Their large triangle shaped head sports two large gray eyes, antennae, and a set of pincers in front of its mouth. The creature also has a set of wings, though they lose the ability to fly when they reach adolescence. As adults their wings help propel and guide it while it is gliding along the rough sea waters. Ixelthids are roughly 10 feet long, and their shoulder they stand 6.5 feet tall.
Genetics and Reproduction
This species seeks mates at the start of the hot and wet seasons in Southern Algonys, and the females will lay about 3 eggs in safe places that are warm and damp.
Growth Rate & Stages
The Ixelthid has a lifespan of about 8 years. They lay within their eggs for about 5 months, and are larvae for another 5 months. After this period they will transform into their adult body in a sort of cocoon that lasts for a few weeks. After this they gain their wings and are able to fly short distances in the first year of adult life but after they become too big for their wings to support them.
Dietary Needs and Habits
These creatures hunt and graze along the water's edge on beeches. They usually eat many different types of fish, algae, seaweed, and even other large insects found in the area. In the wild Ixelthids are normally solitary hunters that will bring food back to the colony where some members will guard food stores for the winter seasons.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
With their large eyes, the Ixelthid has excellent sight. Their antennae also allow them to know where others of their kind are, as well as communicate basic emotion within short distances. Since they travel along the water's surface their feet can also sense strange tides that might signal a predator swimming in their direction.
